Al Franken’s “The Truth (With Jokes)”

Filed at 4:46 pm, Tuesday January 17th 2006
by Arlen Parsa

I’m tempted to call this book the progressive manual for 2006. It’s that good.
I’ve been blogging about the Abramoff Lobbying Scandal a lot lately. One of the resources I’ve recommended several times to help understand the scandal is a recently published book by Al Franken called “The Truth (With Jokes).” Besides being a pretty funny […]

Alito Vote to be Stalled?

Filed at 6:31 pm, Friday January 13th 2006
by Arlen Parsa

Looks like Dems are going to postpone the Alito vote. I’m guessing it’s for more time so they can figure out what the hell they’re going to do (i.e. put together a strategy), since the Republicans seem pretty closely in solidtarity on Alito. We’ll see what happens.

Media Blackout on Reporter’s Kidnapping

Filed at 5:22 pm, Friday January 13th 2006
by Arlen Parsa

I’ve been privately following this story for several days as it developed, and more than once, I’ve come close to writing an entry on it. I guess I might as well stop stalling. For the past several days, print media industry journal website Editor & Publisher (one of my regular reads) has been covering the […]

by Arlen Parsa

All right, here it is. Yesterday, in a Site Update, I promised I’d have an Alito Roundup, and explained why I didn’t have one yesterday. Thursday was Alito’s last day of confirmation hearings. Alito has not been Okay’d or rejected yet though. Without further, letttttttt’s go:

Why We’re There

Filed at 7:24 pm, Thursday January 12th 2006
by Dylan Matthews

I’ve never had much of a doubt that the war in the Iraq was wrong, on a number of levels. I’m not going to rehash my arguments here, but they’re plentiful. What I’ve always wondered is the real reason Bush and his war cabinet were so convinced that war in Iraq was an appropriate action […]

Little-Noticed News, Edition 1

Filed at 2:00 pm, Thursday January 12th 2006
by Arlen Parsa

From time to time, I’ll be throwing out little bits of little-noticed news, some of which is political, some of which isn’t. None of this should be interpreted as “breaking” exactly, just stuff that you might have missed in the past week or so. Pick and choose what interests you.
P.S.- Several of this is just […]

I-Word Watch

Filed at 11:35 am, Thursday January 12th 2006
by Arlen Parsa

Yeah, it’s been a while since I’ve done one of these. In fact, it’s been so long that I’ve actually never done one of these. It’s also been a while since Barron’s called for impeachment hearings. And since The Nation editor Katrina vanden Heuvel first wrote that the I-Word was gaining ground. Mainstream American public […]

Grand Old Alito Roundup (Day 3)

by Arlen Parsa

Alito Hearings- here we go tonight.
- Tonight’s generic article about Alito’s stances on the issues goes to… “Alito on the Issues” by AP.
- MyDD has links up to several videos, including one in which Republican Senator John Cornyn accidentally slips up and calls Alito “Scalito”– which is a nickname that the left have given him […]

Poll Results Look Good for Dems

Filed at 3:50 pm, Wednesday January 11th 2006
by Arlen Parsa

For poll numbers this week, the Pew Research Center brings us news on Alito, and the Abramoff and NSA-Wiretap scandals. There’s nothing drastically different than what was earlier known via AP-Ipsos polls earlier this week (Wiretap Results, Abramoff Results) on the same issues, however it’s a confirmation of what we already knew– and there’s a […]

The Daily Source is a (non daily) feature in which a Daily Background source (website, blog, whatever) is explained and linked to. This is Part 2 of the series.

In case you’re lost as to this “Alito thing,” check out the AP’s Alito on the Issues.———-
Last night I started off with a look at the polls, as they related to Alito. I wrote:

Anyone who has been following public opinion related to Alito knows that he’s in good standing. […]

The Daily Source Part 1

Filed at 8:00 pm, Friday January 06th 2006
by Arlen Parsa

Now and then I’ll be running a feature called The Daily Source. It won’t actually be daily though. The idea is to feature little known sources- be they blogs, websites or whatever- that don’t get enough attention around the blogosphere. Consider this The Daily Source, Part 1.
