You know it’s August when the AP sends out a story titled “Foot-Tapping Ritual Common in Sex Sting” to all 7,000 of its customers.

Well, I’ve decided that it’s time to start doing roundup posts after a roundup hiatus of several months. Without further ado…
Craig’s List
# The Idaho Statesman has been, over the past five months, compiling a list of men who claim to have had relationships with Senator Larry Craig (R-Idaho), who recently pled guilty to “lewd conduct” […]

The (e) Paper Trail
The White House-personnel-using-RNC-email-accounts story is getting more complicated, with yesterday’s revelations from the White House that they may have made some… mistakes.
The AP reported yesterday: “The White House said Wednesday it had mishandled Republican Party-sponsored e-mail accounts used by nearly two dozen presidential aides, resulting in the loss of an undetermined number […]

2008- McCain
John McCain will make a big Iraq speech today at the Virginia Military Institute, further tying him to the war. Read a preview of that speech here.
The Politics of Iraq
Irony of ironies, as E&P reports:

Immigration reloaded
Since it obviously worked soooo perfectly for him in 2006, President Bush is once again going to visit the topic of immigration reform, hoping to gain support for his proposed policies in Congress this year.
Bush returns from vacation today, and will begin work by staging a photo-op where he “inspects” and “oversees” the construction […]

Monica, Monica
Gonzales’ right-hand woman, Monica Goodling has refused to even appear before the House Juduciary Committee as per Conyers’ request (demand?) yesterday that she plead the fifth to individual questions in a private interview and not a blanket fifth, which they say is not possible in this situation. Quite frankly, if there’s any type of […]

Still waiting on Obama’s numbers
Some of Obama’s aides have leaked to the NYT that Obama’s fundraising numbers will be over $20 million when they are announced sometime in the near future. This and more about Obama’s impressive (read: Hillary-rivaling) fundraising operation in an NYT must-read by two reporters I’ve actually never heard of.
Meanwhile, we wait […]

The Money Race
As per our special political calendar, the FEC’s first quarter ends Saturday and each campaign is trying to out-fundraise the others. Meanwhile […]

The Scandal
The House of Representatives voted yesterday to kill a little-known PATRIOT Act provision which literally no member of Congress knew about until it was discovered that the Administration was using it to skip Senate confirmation for US Attorneys.
The Senate already scrapped the provision last week, and now that the House has too, it’ll go […]

Iraq
Today the Senate will take up a bill similar to the one which narrowly passed the House of Representatives last week, which will include a binding requirement for US troops to be out of Iraq by March 2008 (the House version said August 31st). Both bills are attached to funding provisons for the war, in […]

House Iraq Vote
The House will vote today on a budget bill which would bring the war in Iraq to end by the last day of August, 2008. More conservative “blue dog” Democrats were opposed to the measure because it set a date-certain, while more liberal Democrats were opposed to the measure because it was not […]

Subpoena here, Subpoena there
The Senate Judiciary Committee will vote today to decide whether or not to subpoena Karl Rove, Harriet Miers, and other key White House employees embroiled in the US Attorney firings scandal. The House Judiciary Committee voted yesterday to subpoena Rove and Miers, defying the White House.
Not coincidentally, Gonzales met with four prominent […]
