According to a new poll, the “overwhelming majority of Americans” support the Democratic agenda of negotiating with big pharmaceutical corporations to get lower prescription drug prices for senior citizens on Medicare. And by “overwhelming majority,” we mean 85% “including majorities of Republicans, Democrats and independents.”

Yesterday, a top aide to House Speaker-elect Nancy Pelosi (Calif.) said […]

The New York Times follows up on yesterday’s Washington Post article about big pharmaceutical corporations scared of the impending January Congressional Dem takeover. The Times reveals that “top executives from two dozen drug companies met here last week to assess what appears to them to be a harsh new political climate.” Well, harsh for them […]

Scott McClellan’s brother Mark (who works in the White House as Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Administrator) wants to remind everyone in today’s edition of Ask the White House:

I just want to remind everyone about the upcoming March 15th deadline to enroll in the Medicare prescription drug benefit. If you need assistance, please call […]

This is what I like to see.
You remember the Shaivo debacle, right? Remember who the Republicans had trumpeting their side the loudest? Senator Bill Frist. He’s a Senator and a licensed M.D. as well. Of course he was completely wrong about Shaivo, as an autopsy later uncovered. But the point was, the Republicans had somebody […]

I’ve talked periodically about Medicare on this blog, and I think it’s an important issue. Why? Now I am a “young person,” but I do have grandparents who were kicked off Medicare by this Republican-controlled Congress and White House Administration. Everybody’s […]

[Medicare] Yet another sign

From page A01 of today’s Washington Post:

A $400 million campaign by the Bush administration to enroll low-income seniors in prescription drug coverage that would cost them just a few dollars per prescription has signed up 1.4 million people, a fraction of the 8 million eligible for the new coverage.
At this rate, by some calculations, the […]

For several days, the blogs have been buzzing about the White House’s new Medicare plan. The idea is that it’s supposed to save money by replacing the regular Medicare plan with dozens and dozens and dozens of plans, all of which are tailor fitted to one particular or another particular medical condition. Senior citizens are […]
