NYT has an interesting article about Colorado Democrat Ken Salazar and immigration.
“There is a historic aspect to my election from Colorado to the United States Senate, because I became the first Mexican-American in the history of our country to ever be elected outside the state of New Mexico,” Mr. Salazar said. “If I can do […]

By the way, you know, the KKK really, really does not care for immigrants…

NYT on illegal immigration. The title of the article is “Rules Collide With Reality“.
“People ask: Why don’t they come legally? Why don’t they wait in line?” said Jeffrey S. Passel, a demographer at the Pew Hispanic Center, a research organization in Washington. “For most Mexicans, there is no line to get in.”
The United States offers […]

AP:
Republican Mayor Michael Bloomberg thrust himself into the national immigration debate Wednesday, advocating a plan that would establish a DNA or fingerprint database to track and verify all legal U.S. workers.
Gee, that isn’t creepy at allllllllll.

The Senate immigration bill passed as expected today (final vote of 62-36). The Republican-dominated House of Representatives will in all liklihood refuse to allow it to be passed into law however, underlining the deep divide between the President and some moderate Republicans, and the hard-core conservative racist types. AP has an article. The President will […]

The Wash Post says that the Senate immigration bill will probably get through this week. The real problems begin when it gets to the House, where everybody’s up for re-election this year, and none of the extremely conservative Republicans wants to back down and support the President’s plan.

Back in 2000 and 2004, the Republican party noticed that African Americans tend to vote Democratic overwhelmingly. Well, they knew it before, but they began to take notice and decide that they needed ‘their own minority voters.’ They chose hispanic people. And their plan of wooing thise group might have actually worked, had they actually […]

So apparently the White House’s “walk” isn’t quite caught up to its “talk” on immigration yet. Associatd Press reports:
It will take nearly 35,000 more jail beds to end a much-criticized “catch and release” program for dangerous illegal immigrants in the United States, but the Bush administration has not budgeted enough to do that, the Department […]

I swear it was like two days ago that I was thinking to myself “gee, those Republicans sure do have an impressive unification of message.” Yeah well, maybe that was the case in the past, but it’s crumbling under the stress of extremely low poll numbers, various embarrassing failed initiatives, and the general nervousness of […]

Apparently Bill O’Reilly has his panties in a bunch about Mexican people in general, and wants to boycott the central American country. Cause you know, his little “boycott” of France was such a success. Trade between the U.S. and France during his supposed little “boycott” didn’t go up. Nooo sirrr. That certainly didn’t happen.

Very late breaking news yesterday, apparently U.S. border patrol agents have shot a man to death at the border. He was driving an SUV and was going to enter Mexico at an official border crossing in San Diego. Apparently agents fired multiple shots through the drivers side window. Further details aren’t known. The crossing checkpoint […]

BLITZER: … when they came to Texas, were they legally documented, were they unlegally documented?
GONZALES: You know, it’s unclear. It’s unclear.
That was Wolf and Alberto on The Situation Room yesterday. The irony of course, is simply scalding.
Goshhhh, you mean that not all illegal immigrants are horrible people bent on doing harm to Americans, stealing […]

NYT has the latest on the immigration debate in the Senate. To make a long article short (it’s not really even that long), they’ve just voted on an amendment which would bar undocumented workers who are convicted felons (or have three misdemeanors) from the country. Not big news. The idea is that conservative Republicans are […]

Thank you, Washington Post copy editors. In other news, Howard Kurtz recently penned a column entitled “Karl Rove, fcuking asshole.” I guess Milbank requested something a bit more subtle. But besides that bit, there’s a few interesting notes I missed from Rove’s speech Monday at the AEI.
Presidential adviser Karl Rove had almost finished his […]
