Whip count: Just how many votes are there for a public option in the US Senate?
by Arlen Parsa
The blog Open Left has been doing a great job of whip counting and tallying potential votes for a public option in the Senate’s health care debate. Really, nobody outside of Capitol Hill has been doing as good a job figuring out where each Senator stands as things change. Check out their latest assessment, which comports closely with what some in the Senate are saying (namely that there are 51 or 52 votes for it, plus enough to invoke cloture thus side-stepping and filibuster or need for 60 votes on the actual bill).
