| Epic Fox News Fail

It’s one thing when Fox News personalities say things that are totally loony; this happens at least once a day, if not at least once an hour.
It’s another thing entirely when Fox News Channel itself puts out advertising that is so obviously demonstrably false as to be discredited within minutes. That doesn’t happen quite as often, but it did just now. The above poster is part of an advertising campaign by Fox to try and claim that they are the only balanced news outlet out there, because they were the only one who covered the anti-Obama rallies on 9/12. The problem? Just about every mainstream news outlet covered them, including all the networks they claim didn’t. Want proof? Here:

I might add that the amount of coverage given to these protests was probably about the same amount of coverage– if not more– than that given by American media to the pre-Iraq War protests, which were several times larger, and worldwide.

You are so right about the coverage when compared to the world wide anti war protests that went on. We’ve had media coverage of “protests” attended by a dozen of the tea baggers that has been stunning but I figured it’s easy work for our local media.

CNN has become the most reliable and honest source for the news as far as I am concerned. I’ve never been a fan of FOX News and my opinion of Fox News steadily declined during the months leading up to the election of President Obama. While I am a supporter of the freedom of speech, I am shocked at the garbage that comes out of FOX News disguised as journalism. Propaganda would be a better description of what the are spewing out over the airways. I and many other Americans are deeply offended by their right-wing agenda and their willingness to work so hard to destabilize our society with half-truths that seem to appeal to the lowest common denominator among us. Personally, I got so sick and tired of flipping though the channels on my television and accidentally falling upon FOX News, that I up and decided to block the channel all together. They have nothing to say that I wish to hear. I would encourage other Americans to do likewise. Simply block the channel that broadcasts FOX News on your television. CNN and MSNBC are much better alternatives. Our country needs more voices like that of Keith Obermann of MSNBC who can speak with integrity, honesty and compassion. Network news is not a place for hate-mongers, liars and false patriots. Of course, I am only one person and this, of course, is only my humble opinion. Every person has the right to listen to whatever feeds their soul and their personal point of view. As for me, however, I won’t ever listen to FOX News ever again.
I was taking a tour at Pantex national laboratory the other day, and the tour guide apologized to us that the channel was on CNN and not FOX in the cafeteria. I said no, thank you, I prefer not to be indoctrinated as I watch the news. Lol she did not really know how to respond to that.

I love that you’ve made that decision to never pay attention to Cluster-Fox, but in addition to CNN, there’s MSNBC. They’ve got far more intelligent liberal commentators there.
I think its disgusting that either of these news channels have to try and build themselves up about reporting the news. Seriously, all of them are about as unbiased as a teenage girl voting on the VMA’s. There’s bias in all of them. This is not the way the news should be, smearing other channels and distorting the facts. I wish the news would go back to doing what they are supposed to be doing, reporting the news not telling stories.
CNN is right…they covered the event.
FNC is also right…they covered the story behind the event that all others seemed to have missed. If you can keep an open mind, review the videos and draw your own conclusions.

I was at an ‘impeach bush’ rally at Love park in Philadelphia in early 2007; I even emailed nbc10 ahead of time to let them know about it.
Not a single news van showed up.
NOT A SINGLE MAJOR NEWS NETWORK, not a single MINOR news network covered the story.
After we rallied we began our march, which was corralled by federal agents in suits wearing red armbands. Very nazi-esque.
We need more and more articles out there in the blogosphere that finds Fox BLATANTLY lying to it’s audience.
You know WHY they get away with it? Because people who watch Fox News usually don’t watch anything else. A very large portion of their viewership is elderly. Elderly people are very gullible. The rest just have lower IQs. Fox News needs to be shut down simply to help our parents to calm down!

I don’t understand how companies are allowed to not only distort the facts but blatantly lie in their advertising. Isn’t their claim that none of these other outlets covered the story when they clearly did, slander or libel or some such legal term?

The only reason I ever watch FOX News is to find out what the people who take it seriously are getting from it. I like to know what my opposition thinks but I never leave it on for more then 5 minutes as to make sure I don’t boost their ratings. It’s just too bad that some people truly believe the news will not lie to you. Most media is opinion based and I would recommend using the internet as a news source.

Oh, and the “story behind the story”? That’s what we mean by propaganda, and the reason Fox should have its license pulled.
One time, Fox News showed a picture of a gander when they meant to show a female goose. I was thoroughly insulted and called an exorcist to remove the demons from my television. He never came. Sometimes, when the night is as still as a cat about to leap on its prey, I can hear the screams of the trapped heathen souls as they rattle away in their cathode ray prison. I bought some earplugs, but they were too big.

Granted there is bias in any of the media in these times…but trying to say CNN and Fox News are the same is like trying to claim that someone who hits you in the stomach is the same as Ted Bundy. CNN is the typical corporate media that is only interested in producing stories that support their bottom line…Fox News (lead by Roger Ailes - media consultant for Nixon, Reagan, and Bush I) is part of the Republican propaganda machine. Big difference.
Listen to NPR, it is intelligent worthwhile news, they are not competing for ratings so they tell it how it is.

Choosing not to watch Fox News is one thing, but actually considering CNN or, god forbid, MSNBC to be intelligent alternatives is ridiculous. Keith Olbermann’s criticisms of the Bush administration (and especially the rhetoric he chose) are strangely similar to those that some of the far right reserve for Obama. Solution: Don’t rely on other people’s opinions of the news as your news. Pick up a newspaper or otherwise read the articles yourself.
I was at the 9/12 march, and I felt rather uncomfortable being among the patriots, social conservatives, and Glenn Beck supporters. But that is who shows up to the event when it is heavily advertised and supported by Fox News, and the true proponents of small government and free market, like myself, are either forgotten or frightened away.

This statement is entirely true, except that Olberman based his criticism of Bush based on facts, and things that Bush actually did, whereas Fox just makes up whatever batshit crazy story they think will wind up the rubes.

By ‘covered the story behind the event’ do you mean, ‘gave up on just reporting the news, and decided to make it?’ What you call covering the story behind the event, I would call, actively promoting and organizing the event. You seem to be suggesting that because CNN, NBC et al didn’t actively get behind, and promote the event that they were somehow scooped by fox.

yes, Fox news is the epitome of evil. The innuendos and rhetoric have reached a far right wing philosophy. There is no humanity left. The left, whether to key in their own way to end many ways. Just as Judge- mental. I am a staunch independent, and consider myself a patriot, my favorite flag and symbol of my forefathers, and that the revolution, was the Gaston flag.I have been flying that flag for years now, and wanting some fiscal responsibility. Now all these crazy nut jobs have stolen my revolution. I just want to get all the pork out of the government and bring it back to the people, those crazy right-wingers are going berserk with religion and God bless America and freedom ect….. I hate to say it but there’s no point in even pointing out anymore that Fox News is B.S. Anyone who is half intelligent and has the internet knows this. It’s akin to pointing to the sky and saying: “Oh, look at that! The sky is blue!”. The only ones who can argue against this are those who are stick their heads in the dirt and reply: “What sky? Your just making things up.”. Those who are still watching Fox news (besides those who are watching for a good laugh) are not going to admit to being wrong and pull their heads out of the dirt and see the sky. Am I saying we should pack it in and not even point out their mistakes? No. However, we shouldn’t think organizing some boycott against them is going to work either. Comedic ridicule is a great weapon in debate and as long as Fox news still exists and is still vomiting this crap they call “news” it can easily be utilized.

I think some of you are being misled. Fox News is not a news source at all, it is an entertainment channel, on the order of “I Love Lucy” at its best, and “Playboy at Night” at its most salacious.

The right wing would not believe it the same thing for abortion and death panels. Etc. etc. etc.. Most of them turned up hoping to get on tv encouraged by fox’s very own community organizer Glenn Beck. Did it strike any of them that is not how ethical news service behave?
Fox commits commits fraud on a daily basis. Has any one kept count of how many times they’ve lied to their viewers, distorted the facts or just made things up? It’s amazing what Murdock’s 18 billion turn around lets him get away with. So these people blindly trust a corporation that lies to them every day and doesn’t care if they or their children die, rather a Noble Peace Prize winning President elected by the people, and loved and respected around the world.
