Tiffany and I were at the dollar store yesterday and noticed something a bit askew. They had a bunch of copies of the above framed poster, featuring a picture of Obama on election night 2008, and an interesting quote on it, attributed to the president. Here’s what it said:
His famous quote is, of course, “Our destiny is not written for us, but by us.” The poster had the by and the for transposed, substantially changing the meaning and making Obama look like the type of cynical fatalists he decried on the campaign trail… Maybe that’s why this particular series of posters ended up at the dollar store where they figure people wouldn’t know the difference, rather than at some place like Target. Oops.
The real question is… Did you buy the poster???
Hah, I was tempted to just for irony, but ultimately decided against it.
