The Daily Background

Senator Al will *finally* be sworn in at high noon today and will *finally* become the first sitting member of Congress to have addressed me directly. I forget what the question I emailed him with was and YouTube has since removed the video, but he answered it in a podcast, damn it! For one brief moment, I was “Arlen from Chicago,” pronounced correctly and everything.

(Actually if memory serves, it was in October 2006 and related to the probability that the Dems would take both the Senate and the House in that year’s midterm elections.)

Update: Actually, upon reflection, my statement about him being the first member of congress addressing me might not be true, if you count letters from Senators.
