This type of argument looks like it would be more appropriate on television 60 years ago instead of earlier today… Which on the one hand makes it kind of amazing in a sick way, but on the other hand is kind of pathetic.
Watching this type of exchange makes me reflect on the larger situation (the nomination of a woman who would be the first Hispanic justice on the Supreme Court). It’s really remarkable in terms of how transparently it has brought out the racism and sexism which is pervasive in the extreme right wing of the GOP. Politically, every moderate Republican with two wits about them must be wanting Rush et al to shut up for fear of losing the Hispanic vote en mass long-term (not to mention the potential damage this could have for them from independent female voters which isn’t being talked about as much). Actually, you have to wonder whether or not the DNC is secretly pleased about it.
