The embattled Illinois Senator Roland Burris can be seen in the video below today feebly trying to brush off revelations in fresh transcripts that show he promised to cut Blagojevich a check during a conversation in which he pleaded for Obama’s senate seat. Burris’ latest claim is that even though he promised to “do something on a personal level” for the the former Illinois governor, that because he never actually did give him a donation that it doesn’t matter what he said on the wiretap.

Of course, this completely misses the point. It doesn’t matter if he ever gave Blago money or not, the point is that he said he would, and that subsequently Blagojevich did give him the seat, apparently with the expectation that his campaign coffers would receive some money.

(As a side note, when was the last time you saw a politician squabble with reporters like Burris is seen doing in this video?)
