Video- Pat Buchanan melts down over the idea a non-white man is being nominated to the SCOTUS

This type of argument looks like it would be more appropriate on television 60 years ago instead of earlier today… Which on the one hand makes it kind of amazing in a sick way, but on the other hand is kind of pathetic.
Watching this type of exchange makes me reflect on the larger situation (the […]

Roland Burris has a *new* totally irrelevant excuse

The embattled Illinois Senator Roland Burris can be seen in the video below today feebly trying to brush off revelations in fresh transcripts that show he promised to cut Blagojevich a check during a conversation in which he pleaded for Obama’s senate seat. Burris’ latest claim is that even though he promised to “do something […]

… The real revelation though is that Burris may have promised some sort of quid pro quo for the disgraced former governor who is now awaiting a criminal trial:

Transcripts from a call taped by the FBI show Sen. Roland Burris pleaded to be appointed to the U.S. Senate and promised to “personally do something” in […]

The formal announcement is expected to come this morning.

If confirmed by the Senate, Sotomayor, 54, would succeed retiring Justice David Souter. Two officials described […]

Quite a change, as you can see.
Now, New Hampshire’s gay marriage bill has hit a snag because the amendment the governor insisted on (which added additional protections for religious institutions who didn’t honor same sex marriages) was turned down by […]

Whenever I’m on the go and stop at a public computer terminal, I will inevitably check four news websites in addition to my email. Those four are, roughly in order: the New York Times, the Washington Post, the Drudge Report (though Matt doesn’t rule my world), and the Huffington Post. There’s a reason I go […]

Longtime readers know that I’m a documentary film student (actually, as I wrote earlier today, I’m graduating on Sunday). Today I needed a particular piece of equipment called a 6 pin to 4 pin Firewire cable, so I walked to the local RadioShack here in Chicago on State Street to pick one up.
Knowing that such […]

Way to go, Maine!

Maine Governor John Baldacci signed Wednesday into law a bill legalizing gay marriage in the state. The move makes Maine the fifth state to allow gay marriage.

… And the second or third, I believe, to do it through the legislature, which is the way it should be done, ultimately.

AIG now admits it gave *how much* in bonuses to its top execs?

I think I just threw up a little in my mouth:

AIG now says it paid out more than $454 million in bonuses to its employees for work performed in 2008.
That is nearly four times more than the company revealed in late March when asked by POLITICO to detail its total bonus payments. At that time, […]
