… And he’s not a Republican. Well, at least not anymore.
Arlen Specter, who shares my rare first name, was until earlier today an R-PA, but now is a D-PA, after announcing he has jumped ship and switched to the Democratic Party.
The move will give Dems a 60 seat filibuster-proof majority once Al Franken (D-MN) is formally seated. Vice President Biden is speculated to be key to Specter’s switch, as the two have been talking about weekly since Obama’s inauguration.
As you know, the only thing that’s really changed is R beside his name. He’s lost his conservative base and this is a desperate move to stay afloat. Typical politician. What irks me are the reasons he sited for switching.
