Ugh:

ABOARD THE PAPAL PLANE (AP) - Pope Benedict XVI said Tuesday that the distribution of condoms is not the answer in the fight against AIDS in Africa.

Benedict has never before spoken explicitly on condom use although he has stressed that the Roman Catholic Church is in the forefront of the battle against AIDS. The Vatican encourages sexual abstinence to fight the spread of the disease.

“You can’t resolve it with the distribution of condoms,” the pope told reporters aboard the Alitalia plane headed to Yaounde, Cameroon. “On the contrary, it increases the problem.”

Huh, this type of naiveté sounds familiar

One Response to “Pope Benedict: Condoms shouldn’t be used to protect against AIDS”

  1. he may have been referring to the idea that condoms make it “safe” to have sex with anyone. that’s a dangerous mentality. imagine someone who has AIDS thinking that it’s safe to have sex with anyone as long as he wears a condom. It may prevent the spread of AIDS but it’s far from full proof

he’s a smart man and i’m sure he meant that condoms alone won’t stop AIDS
