Update: Chicago Tribune coverage here.
I went to Chicago’s City Council tihs morning to videotape the introduction of a particular piece of legislation for a documentary I’m working on, though we didn’t end up shooting. But I stayed for the entirety of the council meeting, which was interesting to watch.
I had filmed before at a smaller […]

That’s what it looks like anyway.
Over the objections of most Illinoisians. Whatever. Move on already. He won’t be (or at least he better not be) running for re-election in 2010.

Joe the Plumber: “I think media should be abolished from, uh, you know, reporting”

Joe the Plumber on reporting war:

“I’ll be honest with you. I don’t think journalists should be anywhere allowed war. I mean, you guys report where our troops are at. You report what’s happening day to day. You make a big deal out of it. I think it’s asinine. You know, I […]

The Secretary of State and Gender

While perusing a list of past Secretaries of the State, I noticed that, including acting secretaries, as a country we’ve had a string of 63 males holding that position until 1997 when Bill Clinton appointed Madeleine Albright.
And since then, if Hillary Clinton is confirmed as expected, 3 out of the last four Secretaries of State […]

Hah, check out the answer to the last question.

Is the Obama team poll-testing his most recent speech on the economy?

by Arlen Parsa

Over the last couple of days there have been a few reports that Obama’s people have been focus-grouping and opinion polling his rhetoric on the economic recovery plan.
I may be able to confirm this– and take it one step further.
A source I know who takes online surveys for extra income recently filled out a survey […]

BREAKING: BLAGOJEVICH IMPEACHED, IN HISTORIC 114-1 IL HOUSE VOTE

Now the matter goes on to the state Senate for a trial where formal removal will be debated.
The governor plans to speak at 2PM CST from here in Chicago. In a sign of how much he cares about the proceedings, Blagojevich, an avid runner, reportedly went for a jog during the House’s vote.

Blago impeachment seems 99% certain today

Nobody in the IL state House is defending him. With the House will meet in a matter of minutes to take up the matter, Blagojevich’s own people seem to be expecting his impeachment as well. In a statement released from his office yesterday, they said:

Today’s vote was not a surprise. The outcome was a foregone […]

I know several liberal blogs interpreted Howard Dean’s absence at the DNC press conference announcing his replacement Tim Kaine as a snub, but the truth is actually much more simple and benign.
According to the New York Times, Dean “was in American Samoa to attend the inauguration of the state governor and raise money for the […]

If the first train departs from Cleveland going 50MPH…

Forget questions about trains traveling a certain distance at a certain speed. How about political word questions instead?
I know I already answered these questions, but it occurred to me that some of them might be making appearances in appearing in middle school classrooms here in Illinois today:
If there are 118 members of the Illinois House […]

AP Flash:

The Illinois House should impeach Gov. Rod Blagojevich for abusing his power, mismanaging Illinois government and committing possible criminal acts, a special committee concluded Thursday.
The House could vote Friday, making Blagojevich the first governor impeached in the long, sordid history of Illinois politics. Impeachment in the House would trigger a Senate trial to decide […]

The Senate’s vetting of Obama’s proposed cabinet members began today with Tom Daschle, nominated for the post of Director of the Department of Health and Human Services and The White House Office of Health Reform, a new office post created by Obama to oversee his proposed transition towards federally-provided health care.
Daschle, by all accounts, should […]
