So, after hiring Drew Peterson’s PR firm and retaining R. Kelly’s lawyer, Rod Blagojevich is finally going to go on trial in the state senate here in Illinois. The senate, if it votes with a 2/3rds majority, could ultimately remove a sitting governor for the first time in the state’s history.

In the latest development, Blagojevich’s lawyer, Ed Genson– the guy who got R Kelly off the hook at his recent trial– is resigning from the case. (Really? It’s more hopeless than the Kelly trial appeared to be?) This isn’t the first time that the embattled governor has had trouble keeping lawyers however, as there were rumors here in Chicago that the law firm that used to represent him quit after he failed to pay some hefty legal fees for unrelated work.

Anyway, it’s possible I suppose that Blagojevich could ask for some sort of delay because his lawyer just quit, but it looks unlikely that it’d be granted. What are the odds that Blagojevich will still be in office a month from now? We’re in uncharted waters here, but I’ll go out on a limb and say they’re 5 to 1.

And the odds that, despite removal from office, he’ll stop claiming that there’s a conspiracy out to get him because he cares too much about people in wheelchairs? 100 to 1.

Odds that he’ll get a haircut in the coming weeks? I’ll leave that up to the comments section.
