Just imagine if this was a Democrat…

The Republican National Committee has spent more than $150,000 to clothe and accessorize vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin and her family since her surprise pick by John McCain in late August.
According to financial disclosure records, the accessorizing began in early September and included bills from Saks Fifth Avenue in St. Louis and New York for a combined $49,425.74.
The records also document a couple of big-time shopping trips to Neiman Marcus in Minneapolis, including one $75,062.63 spree in early September.
The RNC also spent $4,716.49 on hair and makeup through September after reporting no such costs in August.
John Edwards once got an expensive haircut which was erroneously billed to his campaign (and later fixed). Sarah Palin went on a shopping spree the cost of many Americans’ houses with donor money and has no intention of ever paying it back.
Gee, I wonder which the GOP will make a bigger deal of.
The Daily Background

Palin is valid but leave the kids out of it. You really should be ashamed.
The one who should be ashamed is Palin.
We’re in a recession, and the stock market is crashing, and she’s buying $150k worth of clothes with someone else’s money, all the while claiming to be an “average hockey mom”.
How many “average” people do you know wearing $3500 jackets? She’s a fraud; so are the rest of the Republican’ts.
I’m not ashamed of anything. This has nothing to do with “the kids.”
A bag like that is worth several months of rent for a lot of people in my city. If RNC donors are inadvertently paying for it or similar luxury goods, the public has a right to know.
And Obama is supposedly the “elite” one.
I was reading the followup to the clothes story in the Atlantic:
http://www.theatlantic.com/doc/200810u/palin-clothes
And in there, it linked to a Federal disclosure form F. Taking a look at it, one name popped out like a sore thumb: Stevens, Reed, Curcio & Potholm - gotten around $200,000 last month alone. SRCP. The Swift Boaters.
This is pathetic.
I hate the Republicans as much as the next thinking person, but who cares how much they spend on clothes?
Stick to the real issues.
I am not a Palin supporter by any means, but this is a waste of time. Focus on something important, this kind of bullshit smear tactic is for the other side.
What’s wrong with showing us all the truth about S.Palin? Excuse me but the kids on the estate I live in in North London only have bags like that if they are fake or stolen. They cost over a grand a throw! That’s over £1000 for all of you who don’t know the cockney! Normal, bona-fide, working class people the world over are so far removed from the McCain/Palin hypocrisy machine it is embarrassing to think that some of us will actually fall for their outright lies and elect them!
The more exposure of this hypocrisy surely has to be good. I want to know all about the politicians I may be voting for. When people gain power without coming under the proper scrutiny of the people, you end up with blokes with names like ‘Adolf’, or ‘Idi’ running the show. And that ain’t always such a good thing. Look what has happened in the USA as a result of Bush!
UKB
i understand the whole thing about the real issues but let’s be honest here, the american public will find this way more interesting than her stands on anything that really matters. This is the way to bring her down in our eyes, because that’s how we’ve been programed so far.
Photoshopped. I can tell because I have seen other photoshop jobs and can tell from the pixels.
Ok, i know that she is spending a ton of money on clothes for the campaign but let’s face it…this is just a popularity battle…most of the voters do not know the real issues and the stances that the candidates have on them because of the media posts such as this. Palin is not a rich person and is not interdependently wealthy so she cannot buy such clothes normally. it is programed in us by the same media that is criticizing her now that for a person to be well respected in society, he/she must look good. Just like no one would hire a CEO who wore a threadbare suit that was a size too small. Appearance is EVERYTHING in this modern society and thus she must play her part in this election. Let us just call this what it is…a pageant.
Do you really want to talk about money? Like the $2 million Biden has funneled to his family over the years? How about the billion or so that Obama is spending on this campaign, much of which comes from poor people? Yeah, let’s talk about Sarah Palin buying clothes.
Vulgar and decadent.
This is absolutely a real issue. Her kids would be left out of it if she left them out of it. She’s paraded them on stage, and the suggestion seems to be that she’s spending campaign money buying them expensive bags (would be nice to know if that was the case, but if it isn’t that means the $150k went just on her). This is absolutely a political issue, and it’s not distracting from her policies because she’s barely coherent enough to voice any. It’s a political issue that when people are losing their houses and pensions, a VP candidate feels she can justify spending vast amounts of money on clothes and accessories. She’s touted herself as outside of Washington and so better able to understand the average American - does the average American spend that much money on making themelves look nice? She’s light years away from the average American.
Patrick - Obama’s spent about a billion on his campaign and it’s mostly come from poor people right? Yes, poor people who will gladly donate to him because they believe he can actually do something to improve their lives. Now Palin’s $150k may have come from Republican donors so she has every right to do what she likes with it, but it’s a prety sad indictment of her character when all she can think to do is go shopping.
I think the picture of the little girl flipping off the camera is better. Slutty Sarah is the one who continually exploits her own children. Even charging Alaska more the 20k to fly them around.
First, the RNC spent this money and there is nothing to prevent them from spending it this way. There is also nothing to prevent Palin from being required to pay taxes on it. It’s a perk, part of the job and it’s a taxable benefit. So, at ~7% it’s a little over $10K in Federal taxes she owes so far. If she pays it, done deal.
And if any of us think that any of the individuals on the tickets and their families have not benefited from their office or their campaign, please stand up so we can make fun of you.
And, Patrick, please tell me you are not claiming that there is a higher percentage of poor people donating to one candidate or party or the other. I mean, really? Do you have ANY hard data to support that assertion?
Finally, if we talk about the character of the candidates, surely we can agree this “total family makeover” is fair game… on the other hand if we wanna leave character out, and stop talking about character issues like credibility-by-association, we’ll forget about Ayers, Wright, Keating and the rest and we’ll talk about issues. I can see why some would have a hard time believing some of the nonsense these candidates spew, particularly about money, and if they’re spewing nonsense but we don’t include character in the discussion, we’re really only left with appearance… and -tahdah- Palin *looks* great.
My jacket costs like 3500. It stops bullets, but same thing right?
Seriously, if the republicans want to waste their campaign dollars on Louis Vuitton bags, let ‘em go wild. That’s money they’re not spending on anything substantive. It’s scarier to think Americans are duped by handbags and power-suits.
I like the fact that she has a Mcdonald’s cup too. Kind of symbolizes where she would put our economy.
[…] McCain’s presidential campaign was Sarah Palin’s makeup artist, and that she had spent more on clothing than a lot of American’s houses are worth, I’ve been thinking about how the two […]
