From a press release, via email, from the National Women’s Political Caucus:

THE NATIONAL WOMEN’S POLITICAL CAUCUS WILL NOT ENDORSE GOVERNOR PALIN

Washington, D.C. – The National Women’s Political Caucus (NWPC) announced today that NWPC will not be supporting the candidacy of Governor Sarah Palin for Vice-President of the United States.

“Regrettably, neither she, nor John McCain supports our bottom line issues, including reproductive rights for women. While his selection of Governor Palin as his running mate on the Republican presidential ticket is a recognition of the importance of women’s support and votes in this election and an acknowledgement of the leadership capabilities of women, it is unfortunate that their position on issues of fundamental importance to our members precludes us from supporting her,” stated Flores.

NWPC believes in gender equality for women in politics and have worked for the past 36 years to achieve political parity for women. We are eager to shatter the last barrier to women in politics – the door to the Oval Office – and our members are anxious to see a woman elected President in their lifetime. We acknowledge that Governor Palin has taken the path to political leadership that NWPC promotes for women seeking political office – starting at the local level and working her way up the political ladder – we only wish that some of her views were not in direct conflict with ours.

There are many highly qualified women in the political pipeline today whom we enthusiastically support and work with to get elected or appointed to office. We will continue our work to achieve gender equity in politics and look forward to the day we have our first woman president who supports the principles we believe to be fundamental to the equality of women.

It’s relevant to note though that while the NWPC describes itself as multi-partisan, this is a pro-choice group however, something that Palin certainly is not (she goes far enough to say that she opposes abortion even in cases where rape or incest are a factor– a hardliner stance that 70% of Americans disagree with). Palin is however listed on NWPC’s list.

hope you dont my me stopping by, have a safe and blessed weekend

  3. If you look at the Palin acceptance speech viddeo clip, you’ll see Cindy McCain in the audience watching very intensely. Remember she was supposed to be in Georgia this week for humanitarian assistance according to Johnny. Seems she must have rushed back to monitor Johnny in person.

  4. Actually, the list/link you have her on of NWPC’s is a list of all women elected officials in the country, not just officials that NWPC has endorsed. This link is separate from our list of NWPC endorsed candidates, and merely serves as an “fyi” for those who would like to be up-to-date on women currently in political office.

  5. Thanks for your clarification.
