3 Reasons why Sarah Palin is a weak pick on McCain’s part

There are several reasons why Sarah Palin was a truly awful pick on John McCain’s part. Here are three of them:

1. She brings no natural strength to the ticket: Joe Biden bolstered the Democratic ticket with his decades of experience on foreign policy matters, as well as his unique personal story. Palin brings to the ticket her paltry months of advocacy on the behalf of oil corporations, and not much else.

Although she originally got elected in 2006 by claiming to be a reformer, as one Alaska columnist recalls: “Sarah Palin’s chief qualification for being elected governor was that she was not Frank Murkowski [her unpopular predecessor].” Besides, she’s now got ethical problems of her own, with accusations that she had her ex-brother in law fired after he divorced her sister.

2. She gives more fuel to Democrats: As a lifetime NRA member who opposes abortion even in the case of rape or incest, wants to teach creationism in schools, is opposed to lifesaving stem cell research, and is arguably one of the closest elected official to the oil industry in the entire country. Besides all of these issues on which she’s out of touch with the American public, she’ll prove quite the contrast with Joe Biden, one of the sharpest debaters alive, when the two tee off on October 2nd.

3. She’s everything McCain criticizes Obama for being: One of John McCain’s principle arguments against Barack Obama has thus far been that he is inexperienced and celebrity like. Nothing could have undermined this messaging more than picking a former beauty pageant winner with almost no experience on anything besides helping oil corporations make a profit.

From now on, when anybody on the Republican side uses either the celebrity or inexperience lines of attack against Obama, the Obama campaign can just hold up a picture of McCain’s own running mate wearing during the swimsuit contest of the 1984 Miss Alaska pageant. Even Rob Fournier, the AP reporter who McCain wanted to join his campaign, says of her total lack of experience:

She is younger and less experienced than the first-term Illinois senator, and brings an ethical shadow to the ticket. A governor for just 20 months, she was two-term mayor of Wasilla, Alaska, a town of 6,500 where the biggest issue is controlling growth and the biggest civic worry is whether there will be enough snow for the Iditarod dog-mushing race.

She even recently admitted that she doesn’t even know what a Vice President does. Can the McCain campaign really say with a straight face that “She is ready to be president”?

  1. A cogent analysis. Just like McCain, Palin want to make the rich richer.

  2. 100 years McCain, more of the same. All this female Dan Quayle will bring to the ticket is a more extreme version of McCain but without the necessary experience to be placed a heartbeat away of the most powerful elected position in history. She also instated a wolf-killing bounty program in Alaska when the state had NO LEGAL AUTHORITY to do so, $150 per wolf killed by aerial gunners. Search aerial wolf hunting on you tube, or google it, or google ¨Sarah Palin wolf killings¨ or watch this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Mu_rqmFpL8
You have to be so ignorant, so out of touch, so blatantly heartless to think that the ice shelf is not melting, to further sacrifice polar bears to drowning, to hunt down one of the food chain’s great, chief predators FROM THE SKY!! My God, what drives these people to think this way…and they call themselves pro-life, pro-family. Orwellian double-speak exemplified. Insane McCain, female Dan Quayle from Hell.

  3. You don’t get it…you think that the electorate is logical - they are not. You think the electorate will weight issues carefully - they will not. You think the electorate is smart - they are not. The fact is, the media is already eating up Sarah Palin (did ya see Meet the Press today? Maria Bartiromo kissed Palin’s butt so much she should change her name to Dirty Sanchez).

Who cares about the credentials - she doesn’t need any. She’s got a photogenic quality, which the media loves (and it sells). Once the media falls in love, the electorate falls in love….remember the prelude to the Iraq War? “Shock-and-Awe”? They ate it up enough to be complicit and embed journalists as the war happened - any neigh-sayers were marginalized immediately and cast as unpatriotic. They fell for it then, they will fall again…McCain/Palin - Shock/Awe ‘08.

This time any attack against her will cause the media to say that dems are sexists and out of touch with the common folk (like Palin will be portrayed as). They will turn on Barack, paint him and Biden as elitists, thus securing enough votes to win. McCain/Palin wins, the country loses…this has been the score for the last eight years, and it will continue. Good luck America!

  4. I think these assesments are right on. This is incredibly irresponsible. It is bad enough that she is the Govenor with no experience, we should not make this a national problem.

Imagine, McCain becomes deathly ill at 75, she becomes President with no time to be president with her 5 kids, no experience, no Foreign experience, scandal and airhead politics. If he makes decisions like this againt the will of his party, what will stop him from doing the same dumb thing against the will of the people?

Bush and Chaney got us twice, why add incompetence to this whole debate…

Quayle, Bush, Chaney, Palin….it should make everyone very nervouse. IDIOTS!!!!
