Crashing the Gate and Taking on the System

Several days ago, I happened upon a like-new copy of Markos Moulitsas’ and Jerome Armstrong’s 2006 book Crashing The Gate at a thrift store for fifty cents. After snatching it up, I read it pretty quickly and yesterday I picked up a copy of Markos’ newly released book Taking On The System: Rules for Radical Change in a Digital Era. I’m now making my way through it, and I must say both books are quite good and recommended reading for anyone who is interested in the future of politics.

Although some of the examples used in both books are directly from the Netroots and thus are ones we’re familiar with, the larger theories, ideas and philosophies outlined in them are pretty much non-existent online right now, which is what gives the books their worth. And besides, with plenty of historical and cultural examples that don’t have to do with the political blogosphere (particularly in the more recent book), you’re sure to learn a lot from them.
