Flash: Senate candidate Mark Warner to keynote Dem convention

Four years ago, Senate candidate Barack Obama was the Democratic keynote speaker. This year it’ll be Mark Warner, Virginia’s former Democratic governor who is now running for Senate– and a seat that’s been held by Republicans for years.

Warner will speak on Tuesday, August 26th. His speech may be overshadowed however by Hillary Clinton, who speaks the same night.

By choosing Warner, a red state Democrat as the keynote speaker, Obama is putting a lot of focus on Virginia, a state Democrats think they can win in November. If you ask me, I think this pretty much seals the deal that Obama won’t choose Kaine (Virginia’s current Democratic governor) as a VP, as that’d be an awfully big stress on one state at the convention.
