Clues that Obama WON’T choose Bayh or Kaine
by Arlen Parsa
The chances that Barack Obama will choose either Virginia Governor Tim Kaine or Senator Evan Bayh of Indiana are dwindling.
After it was announced that Mark Warner would be the keynote speaker at the Democratic National Convention in late August, I wrote that:
By choosing Warner, a red state Democrat as the keynote speaker, Obama is putting a lot of focus on Virginia, a state Democrats think they can win in November. If you ask me, I think this pretty much seals the deal that Obama won’t choose Kaine (Virginia’s current Democratic governor) as a VP, as that’d be an awfully big stress on one state at the convention.
Now NBC News Political Director Chuck Todd echoes my analysis:
… And by the way, doesn’t this bode ill for Tim Kaine’s veep chances? It’s hard to imagine there would be Virginians on two straight nights dominating prime time.
Further, here’s Todd on why Evan Bayh would be an illogical choice for Obama’s running mate:
Obama won the Democratic primary touting his opposition to the war in Iraq. As Todd explains, picking a Senator who voted for the war in Iraq (such as Bayh, or Clinton for that matter) would seriously undermine Obama’s message of having the judgment to oppose the war from Day One.
