I probably wasn’t the only one

This is a little embarrassing, but when I glanced at this headline from Politico, I immediately read it as “McCain is old man out on ‘time horizon’” and did a double take. Whoops.
If you take into account recent polls on the subject (see the below AP video report), I probably wasn’t the only one to […]

Audio from Bill O’Reilly’s radio show today, criticizing Al Gore’s surprise appearance at the Netroots Nation progressive blogger conference this weekend. Boy, O’Reilly really hates bloggers.

Iraqi PM backs Obama’s plan over McCain

Even though al-Maliki is now trying to deny that he meant this, there’s really no putting the cat back in the box when you make statements like this one:

“U.S. presidential candidate Barack Obama talks about 16 months,” Mr. Maliki said, according to the magazine’s online English edition. “That, we think, would be the right timeframe […]

McCain goes on the attack– hard, vintage RNC style

Here’s the McCain campaign’s new negative ad which claims that Obama voted to deprive funding to “the troops” in the field:

(By the way, when it comes to hearings mentioned in the ad–which Obama hasn’t been holding since he’s been running for president– McCain’s record is even worse.) His campaign has issued an accompanying document mischievously […]

Flash: Obama raised $52M in June; McCain raised $22M

The details:

In an e-mail to supporters, campaign manager David Plouffe said the Obama campaign raised the funds with an average donation of $68. The Obama campaign and the Democratic National Committee have a combined total of $72 million in the bank, Plouffe said.
“But more impressive than the number is how you did it,” Plouffe wrote. […]

Will Kanye reprise his famous post-Katrina comments when he performs in front of thousands of people at the Democratic National Convention in Denver this year?

This year’s Democratic National Convention Committee revealed that a trio of hip-hop artists — Kanye West, Wyclef Jean and N.E.R.D. — will perform when the party gets together in Denver. A […]

Obama dismisses the New Yorker cover distraction on Larry King Live.
Partial transcript:

KING: Considering that, though, there’s a lot of e-mails going around. It gets rather terrible. A “Newsweek” poll shows that 12 percent of America believes that you’re a Muslim, and 26 believe — 26 percent believe you were raised […]

Bush won’t ask the American people to conserve

As if we needed even more evidence of the complete lack of leadership from the White House these days….

Bush won’t demand conservation
President Bush said Tuesday that he will not call on Americans to conserve gasoline despite the rising price of oil, saying consumers are “smart enough” to figure out for themselves that they should drive […]

Democratic caucus to finally kick out Lieberman?

by Arlen Parsa

I’m tempted to say better late than never, but this really should have happened ages ago:

Despite assurances to the contrary from Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, Democratic insiders are certain that Sen. Joseph Lieberman will be kicked out of the party’s caucus next year and lose his Senate chairmanship if he addresses the Republican National […]

One nation, divided

This question caught my eye from the latest Gallup Poll:

“Some people think of American society as divided into two groups — the ‘haves’ and ‘have-nots’ — while others think it’s incorrect to think of America that way. Do you, yourself, think of America as divided into haves and have-nots, or don’t you think of America […]

“A good number” of the 300 economists who signed onto McCain’s economic plans… well, didn’t.

Whoops:

It’s now clear that a good number of the 300 economists who “endorsed” John McCain’s economic policies did no such thing. Many see a conflict between the costs of an extended war and McCain’s promises back home; others didn’t bother to read the specifics of what they were asked to sign.
