Obama trounces Clinton in Hawaii
by Arlen Parsa
With turnout three times higher than local officials’ wildest expectations (and more than seven times more than the highest turnout in previous years), Barack Obama routed Hillary Clinton late Tuesday in his home state of Hawaii.
The final vote total stood at 76% to 24% Wednesday morning, an astonishing gap of more than 50%.
An official estimation of pledged delgates was not prepared Wednesday, but NBC News estimated that Obama captured 12 of the state’s 20 p-dels tied to the contest, while Clinton picked up four (obviously this does not add up to 20 so they’re still working on this).
The Hawaii results exceeded even the Obama campaign’s expectations. With local politicians in the state supporting Clinton, Obama’s campaign had predicted merely eeking out a win of 52%-47% as recently as February 7th, when an internal graph was accidentally leaked to a reporter. The Obama campaign predicted a similar margin of win in Wisconsin, but instead got a larger 17 point margin.
