   But what in the world are the “Thank God for Dead Soldiers” and “Thank God for Dead miners” things about? I’m assuming this are more of their funeral protests.

   I can’t even believe the “Thank God for 9/11″ one.

   The “Thank God for Dead Soldiers” is about their belief that the soldiers fighting for the US in Iraq deserved to be punished by death for defending our godless country. If a solider serves in the US military, s/he is upholding our nation’s tolerance of homosexuality, abortion, etc. They routinely picket funerals of soldiers killed in Iraq.

   It’s a relatively recent mutation in their incomprehensible and hateful beliefs - they started out protesting AIDS funerals, but now seem to have expanded significantly.

   Abby Jean is right– I’d only add that the miners thing (referring to mine collapses in recent months) and the 9/11 thing is basically their way of blaming any tragic event that effects Americans on homosexuality, and what they see as America’s sinful acceptance of gay people (although it’s debatable just how accepted gays, lesbians, bisexuals and transgendered people are in the United States).

   Picketing anyone’s funeral for any reason is immoral. Being a church group they should be ashamed of themselves. I personally don’t agree with homosexuality but I disagree more vehemently with disrespect. Great job on turning the other cheek, disrespectful baptists.

    Well done. This is a tiny group in a backwater of America, and all they want to do is spread a message of hate and intolerance. That message has now reached all across the English-speaking world (and probably further) thanks to people insisting on publicising them, just because it confirms our prejudices about Christians.

    It’s not an outrage - it’s bigoted hicks. Who cares?

    If you want to understand more about why the WBC does what they do, I recommend a recent documentary made about them called “Fall From Grace.” It is documents this family with unprecedented access to their lives and the impetus behind their belief system. It was made my a KU student and does a wonderful job of getting information about this group without being bias. While I understand that may people are angry with this group, and rightly so, and might not want to view the film, I believe that in all instances that knowledge is power. And, the best way to combat these people is to be prepared to respond in an intelligent, well thought out manner. Also, there is mention of the WBC in the play/movie The Laramie Project (about the murder of Matthew Shepard) and I believe that his friends/family’s response of using ‘angel action’ was one of the best ways to combat the hatred and anger of the WBC.

    Radicals are terrifying at best. And religious zealots, regardless of religious belief, are abominable. It’s not homosexuality that causes these wars - it’s radical religion.

    A previous commenter stated that “God Hates this kind of Christian.” Well God doesn’t as such hate anyone. To hate someone would mean to want them not to exist. Since God’s will in the ontological sphere is manifest anything God hates could not exist as a thing. Only a limitation or a laking of some fundamental good is hated. That is, God literally hates “nothing.” He created the universe and all in it and therefor loves its.

    The second point… “this kind of Christian” well to be a Christian means to imitate Christ. Either you do or you don’t. These people don’t and therefor I would hesitate to call them Christians. You wouldn’t call someone who ate ham every day a vegetarian, even if they called themselves that, would you? words mean things. To declare oneself a Christian means to declare yourself willing to die for your fellow man. Even those you believe are sinners, perhaps especially those, after all thats what Christ did.

    Not affiliated in anyway whatsoever with this site, but I did just come across it yesterday. I think it’s a brilliant idea and am planning to attend.

    www.millionfagmarch.com or maybe it’s .org, either way, the gist is that the organizers are trying to get thousands and thousands of people together to show up in Topeka at the Phelps’ Compound of Delusion to picket against THEM and show them that this freedom of speech/expression goes both ways. I am so there.

    These people make me sick, and they call themselves Christians. They don’t know one thing about being a good Christan. Christians are always preaching about loving one another, and having respect for ALL that’s right, All of God’s creatures. But it seams that more and more Christians these days are committing hate crimes and are trying to making people who are a little different, want to die. But I tell you what, and this goes out to EVERYONE out there who thinks it wrong and unholy to be gay:
    We are everywhere, so take a big shot of reality; were not going anywhere. In fact you probably know someone close to your heart who is gay, but hides it from you.     This is just sickening. Those people do not represent Christianity or God accurately. God is full of love and mercy and forgiveness. To hear these people talk, he is evil and thrives on human suffering.     i m a god follower and i do not apporve of what u are doing. u should not be as ceul as u r. yes god said it is a sin to be homosexula, it is also a sin to lie. what if i came up to you and said that u were going to burn in hell becuase you told somone that they didn’t look fat in a dress when thy really did. it is a lie. it is a sin. Sin is sin. homosexulas wear their sin on the outside for all to see. which makes it easier to ask for forgiveness. but when your sin is so deep inside of you it is hard to let go. if andybody should be picketed against it is christians. we are the most hypocritcal people out there. homosexulas are humans too.     Christianity is based on Love and acceptance. God does love homosexuals, he hates their actions. BIG difference. Why would Christ send His son to earth to die if any of us were worthy of heaven? I mean if we are really going to throw this whole Christianity thing out… we should be pointing the finger at ALOT more people than gays and lesbians. No… these people don’t show ANY signs of being CHRISTians in my opinion. Mostly because, NOTHING they do exemplifies Christ. It is so beyond sad.
