Happy Michigan primary day

By the way, the Michigan primary is today, if anyone cared.

Of course, since MI leapfrogged the primary schedule in order to be more relevant, the DNC sanctioned them and claims they won’t seat their 156 delegates at the convention (though pretty much everyone believes they still will be seated through some sort of compromise that has yet to be made). So the only two people on the Democratic ballot are Hillary Clinton and Dennis Kucinich– the rest of the Dems agreed to abide by DNC rules and not campaign there.

I’ve read that some political analysts will consider this a “loss” for Hillary if she doesn’t get at least 60% of the vote with nobody else really running. We’ll see how the media treats it.

By the way, if Kucinich were a real candidate, he’d do well tonight. If he fails to break 5% of the vote even when it’s just him and Hillary, it’d be awfully embarrassing. MI Democratic primary voters are also allowed to vote “undeclared” as a sort of none-of-the-above option, which some Obama and Edwards supporters are planning to do. Really, there shouldn’t be that big of a turnout on the Democratic side, since nobody wants to show up and vote in a race where there’s essentially only one candidate.

On the Republican side, if Mitt Romney doesn’t win, he could be out of the race. His father was the governor of Michigan and he was born in The Automotive State. McCain is seen as his closest rival there, and the two are pretty close in the polls.

Update: Another thought… There will be no victory speeches in Michigan tonight– Hillary, Obama and Edwards (and maybe Kucinich) will all be debating in Nevada. Smirk.
