“There is no difference whatsoever between democrats and republicans”
by Arlen Parsa
I signed up for Yahoo! Answers tonight, and I think I’m already addicted to answering people’s questions. Every now and then, I come across one like this (from a Ron Paul supporter) that I just don’t even know where to start on:
will anyone else consider the idea that there is no difference whatsoever between democrats and republicans? i understand they represent different things, but im saying that they could possibly be a front to make poeple feel like they actually have a choice. ie republicans are against abortion, yet no GOP pres has stopped it. democrats are against guns, yet no democratic pres has stopped it. so why does everyone just pick petty issues that they dont ever do anything about to decide their vote? yes i understand there is a house and congress, but republicans controlled the presidency and majority for a while, so why didnt they do anything?
Head. Desk. Guhhhhhhh.

Both parties are very good at protecting the interests of the wealthy.
It was a Democratic Administration and a Democratic government that gave us Social Security (the original safety net) and Welfare and Medicare and Medicaid and food stamps, etc etc etc and Republicans have been trying to get rid of them ever since. *Some* Democrats are not as good as others, but on the whole, there is absolutely no question about which is the better party– which party cares more about civil rights, reproductive rights, human rights, civil liberties, etc etc etc. Sometimes it’s easier to look at things in terms of progressives vs conservatives. And there are plenty of real differences between the two.
