Video- The DoJ’s voting rights chief gets torn apart

Ladies and gentlemen, I have come to the conclusion that John Tanner, the (rich, white) man in charge of making sure that minority voters aren’t disenfranchised, is in fact a racist dimwit who has never faced any type of discrimination in his life.

As evidence, I present exhibit one. The DoJ’s John Tanner tries to explain to Rep Artur Davis (D-AL) why he said that African Americans don’t “age” the same way white people do, and that therefore they shouldn’t be concerned about disenfranchising voter id laws that the GOP perennially pushes (comments that were originally caught on tape by and reported on by my buddies Brad Friedman and Alan Breslauer).

Okay, now that you sufficiently question whether Tanner is the right person for the job he has, here’s exhibit two for your satisfaction: Rep Keith Ellison (D-MN) making this idiot squirm.

Also, isn’t it interesting how not a single Republican showed up for these subcommittee hearings? Somebody correct me if I’m wrong, but I’m pretty sure not a single one of them bothered to show up.

Update: Thanks to Brad in the comments, who points out that Republican Congressman Trent Franks of Arizona showed up long enough to mutter some nonsense about voter fraud being a real problem and then left.

  1. Trent Franks (R-AZ) showed up, quoted the discredited GOP “voter fraud” front man Mark F. “Thor” Hearne (http://www.BradBlog.com/ACVR) and then left.

I believe that was it for the R’s.

  2. Thanks, Brad. Updated.
