The ladies on The View the other day discussed Hillary Clinton’s “baby bond” plan. The idea is basically this: invest in American kids (literally) by giving them a $5,000 bond the year they’re born, which would mature when they reach age 18 and could be used for college or a down-payment on a house.
When conservative co-host Elizabeth Hasselbeck said she hated the idea but thought it might prevent more abortions, the discussion turned to abortion, and Whoopi offered an impassioned defense of a woman’s right to choose whether or not she wants to carry a baby to term or not.
Hasselbeck’s theory is of course incredibly stupid, because nobody chooses to have an abortion because their child won’t get $5,000 when their child turns 18 years old. If Clinton’s plan becomes law, the money will only be available for use when the bonds mature at age 18, and it’s likely that there will be restrictions on how it can be used. Her idea that the bond should only go to people who “need it” is also silly since who knows where a person will be financially in 18 years by the time the bond matures?
On the topic of “baby bonds,” Ben Smith guesses that it’s possible Hillary meant to say the bonds would be worth $500, but accidentally said $5,000 and is sticking to the mistake. It’s an interesting theory, since earlier proposed versions of the plan were worth only $500.

Your wording is interesting. Whoopi’s defense was impassioned, but misguided. It’s intellectually dishonest to claim that all women treat abortion equally, as the hardest decision of their lives. One, because some don’t. Two, because it makes it into if you’re not pro-choice you have no heart.
When Ron Paul was on, she showed no knowledge of Roe v. Wade. She clearly thought that abortion was only limited to the first trimester or second. At least Joy Behar knew that PBAs are legal by Roe v. Wade, though states have fought the SC on it.
It comes down to the belief in life and liberty. How can you protect liberty when you don’t protect the life of a fetus?

The choice is indirectly chosen when a woman has sex. I’m not an abstinence only follower or believer, at all. But it’s just cause and effect, and the consequences of actions. If a woman has sex even when protected, she might get pregnant.
If you’re not willing to accept that limited risk, that’s not the fault of the fetus.
I’m totally disgusted with her comment when she tries to defend abortion since some children will have no homes to go to that I’ve seen her use on the show twice. This is infanticide. It’s no one’s decision to abort because he/she thinks the child may not have the best life or advantages that other children do. We’re better than infanticide.
It is the 21st Century and our country is still in the midst of conquering sexism and racism. In an ideal world…abortion would not be necessary. All children would be planned and wanted and born in loving families with loving parents.
However…this is not the reality. Women are not afforded the same rights and opportunities with equality as men. This is also the reality when it comes to reproduction and parenting.
Until men are held as accountable for pregnancies, until women have options and opportunities…until men learn the importance of fidelity, responsibility, etc…will we no longer need a final bow out option.
Yes…it is a life. Yes I am a physician who works with women on a daily basis who have to make the decision to abort or continue a pregnancy. I’ve sent babies home with unfit mothers and no one raises hell. If you don’t support abortion…that is fine. You don’t have to because at the end of the day the decision is between a woman and her physician.
Volunteer in a local pediatric ER or rehabilitation center and you will see what happens to unplanned, unwanted children. So…invest efforts on ensuring women have access and control over their own fertility. Abstinence does not work! Everyone will eventually have SEX unlesss they join the PARISH.
I could go on forever but ELISABETH HASSELBACH is priviledged and lost. Women in her situation would NOT ABORT…they have no reason to! I hate seeing the Range Rover driving mom with the ITS A CHILD NOT A CHOICE…well if everyone could ride in their RANGE ROVERS at 1pm and grab Starbucks waiting to pick up their children and have a husband who pays the bills well who would ever need ABORTION.
