NYT exposes torture still endorsed by the DoJ
by Arlen Parsa
NYT star reporters Scott Shane, David Johnston and James Risen spent three months interviewing more than 24 anonymous officials on a series of secret memos endorsing “brutal interrogations” tantamount to torture.
Allegations of DoJ and White House approved torture are nothing new, and in fact it’s quite accepted that such torture has occured in the past. But the Times reveales in their A1 splash today that despite the (small) steps Congress has taken to oversee interrogations and Supreme Court decisions, the DoJ continues to fully endorse illegal torture.
After reading the 4,000 word article, it’s a little hard to know what to excerpt. Instead, here’s a two sentence synopsis. Shorter NYT:
Even though we thought the Administration had largely stopped torturing people due to Congressional oversight and the media’s exposing what they’ve done in the past, they’re still doing all kinds of crazy illegal shit, though even more secretly.
Also, the Department of Justice has become one incredibly, incredibly fucked up place.
