3rdQ fundraising totals
by Arlen Parsa
On September 28th, I wrote about third quarter fundraising expectations:
The FEC’s third quarter fundraising deadline is midnight Saturday Sunday, which means we should hear the first leaked or formally announced numbers coming out of campaigns fairly soon. I doubt there’ll be any exciting leaks this quarter though, cause the 3rdQ is always the slowest and so the campaigns may be dragging their feet a bit. The formal reports will be due at the FEC in another two weeks or so.
Expectations: The Conventional Wisdom has Hillary beating Obama by a mil or two (they’re both rumored to be preparing to announce 20M, maybe slightly less), and Edwards having a tough quarter- Richardson may beat him in fundraising for the first time. Obviously a lot of attention will be paid to however much Fred Thompson raises on the Republican side. With the expectations he’s foolishly built up, he’s clearly going to disappoint… at this point the only question is: by how much?
…Also, McCain. How much is he hurting right now? We’ll know soon enough.
I’ll add one more question to that list: how much of his own money did Mitt Romney donate to his campaign? Here’s how they did:
- Obama raised $20M in the 3rdQ, $19M of which can be used in the primary.
- Edwards raised $7M
- Richardson disappointed slightly with only $5M, after the possibility had been raised that he could beat Edwards in fundraising
- McCain did $5M, although is expected to report “well over $2 million in debt”
- Romney has reportedly chipped in another $6M of his own money in the 3rdQ, making the total amount of money he’s self-donated almost $15M
So… how much did Hill raise?
