Unveiling the Automaki theme

As you can already tell if you’re reading this on the website itself (not the RSS feed), I’ve just set up the new theme that I’ve been promising approximately forever. Quite different, isn’t it?

It’s loaded with new features, and I’ll be rolling out a few more in the coming days. First, the layout looks quite different from the old theme. Hopefully it’ll be a little less gray and dreary looking. The brown paper bag background is sort of a play on the “printed on 100% recycled pixels” motto in the upper left-hand corner.

As you can see, there’s a few new things in terms of the structure of the site. At the top, there are a couple of navigation tabs to different sections of the site. I expect to add more of these tabs fairly soon.

Also, there’s a new reason to visit the homepage, even if you mostly read via the site’s RSS feed. Check out the “Asides” area in approximately the middle of the home page- it’s going to have little one-liner posts with links that will be updated very frequently throughout the day, and won’t be included with the RSS feed, cause little posts like that can be kind of annoying to get through RSS.

In addition, there’s a new list of the most popular posts of all time on the front page, and as well as a better-organized blogroll. There’s also a new feature I added which will allow you to retroactively edit your comments for a short period of time after you’ve posted them to fix typos. Go on, try it out.

Oh, and one more thing. Search! I’ve had readers request a search for quite some time now, and I’m very pleased to announce that everybody will be able to search through old entries now.

So, is anything not working for you? Are things not rendering right in your browser? Do you have suggestions for new features? Drop me a line
