McCain hurriedly tries to backtrack on bigoted interview comments
by Arlen Parsa
In response to the hubbub about a recent interview on religion (video mashup of the most outrageous moments above), John McCain has issued the following statement:
“I would vote for a Muslim if he or she was the candidate best able to lead the country and defend our political values.”
Clearly, this flies in the face of what he actually said in the interview itself:
I think the number one issue people should make [in the] selection of the President of the United States is, ‘Will this person carry on in the Judeo Christian principled tradition that has made this nation the greatest experiment in the history of mankind?’
If McCain believes the single most important thing voters should ask themselves is whether or not the candidate is Christian or Jewish, then wouldn’t that automatically rule out voting for anybody who’s neither of the two? Clearly, he’s trying to diffuse the situation, but the inconvenient truth is, bigotry when caught on video, is pretty undeniable.

This reminds me of when he accidentally said he was for gay marriage, then had to correct it after a commercial break, asking his handlers, “did I fix it?”
