Would he be willing to vote for a non-Christian candidate? You tell me.

Update: McCain contradicts himself in trying to limit the damage from this interview here.

  1. I just feel he should STFU about his phony god and j/c thinking.

  2. Given the performance of religious politicians, I think I’d recommend that all future candidates are given a “rationality” test - in which they have to demonstrate that they’re not guided by an obsessive belief in things that aren’t there.

I mean really - if you look at how domestic or foreign policies of different countries stand up using christian morality as a yardstick, then you’ll notice a very pronounced inverse relationship between the number of “worshippers” and the behaviour of the country - with Scandinavia and Western Europe at the top… with their 80% athiest populations.

You could be thinking that if you really want to propogate the teachings of Christ, the best thing you could do, is get rid of Christianity.

  3. What an arrogant ass. That all I have to say about this fool. These so called Christians are the reason this country is going down the tube.

  4. Ideally, I don’t think we should criticize J.M. for thinking his religion is the ultimate truth. I mean, what is he supposed to say - “You know, I’m probably wrong about the whole God and Jesus thing, but I think it’s best for a president to believe in it anyway”. The man believes one idea is the best, and it’s his right to do so.

What we should criticize him for, and which I feel he may really deserve some blame, is hiding behind a Christian philosophy to argue irrationally about important national issues or to force a position that contradicts the democratic nature of this country. Having an anti-religious worldview is increasingly chic and ’sophisticated’ attitude to have these days.

  5. What an arrogant a$$hole!

Everyone is entitled to their own belief system, but…
America was definitely NOT founded on so-called “Christian principles.”

And as previous commenters noted: Look at the past performance of these self-proclaimed, holier-than-thou “Christians”.

What we need in office is an ethical, honest, intelligent person with sufficient courage and ethics to actually serve the people and protect & uphold the Constitution.

  6. I wonder if he were saying this, would it not be for the fact that most American voters profess themselves to be religious.

So yes, he is being as controversial here as saying (with a profound, heavy sigh) : “I just really believe in my heart that shooting puppies is wrong, as controversial as that might seem.”

Oh wow, John, you are being so spiritual and courageous ! Will you be our next dear leader ? Please John, please !

  7. I hate to break it to you John, but America was founded by Freemasons. They were actually trying to escape the Christians. Look at the Washington Monument a pyramid is a masonic symbol. Lets not forget the George Washington MASONIC National Memorial, where he is depicted in full masonic dress. Look any any Christian website and check out what they think of Freemasons….they associate them with Satan. Oh yeah, and Thomas Jefferson was one too. So was Ben Franklin. Freemasons DO NOT BELIEVE in the Christian GOD. Look it up.

  8. “I just feel MY faith…. is better for our spiritual guidence.” Well, duh, that’s why it’s called “FAITH” john! This is why I’m NOT VOTING FOR YOU, as you are bringing RELIGION (or are trying to) into the presidential race. Sorry John, you are a drowning man, gasping at straw polls…

  9. […] McCain fallout from his Beliefnet interview- this time from the Jewish community: The American Jewish Committee, an international think tank […]

  10. You better believe America was formed using Judeo Christian values as that was the background/faith of the majority of Europeans that founded America (shaped their thinking/cuture…consequently ours)– don’t buy into the bunk about separation of church and state… (the intent was to prevent the Federal Government with meddling with State’s rights). Glad to hear SEN McCain speaking up…wish more would (and would embrace Him…and step out of the darkness).

Check out a few factoids captured by author David Kupelian…JUST PONDER the following:.

In 1777, with the Revolutionary War threatening the flow of Bibles from England, Congress approved the purchase of 20,000 Bibles from Holland to give to the states.

No fewer than six of the 13 original states had official, state-supported churches – “establishments of religion”! I’ll bet you didn’t know that. In fact, these states – Connecticut, Georgia, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and South Carolina – refused to ratify the new national Constitution unless it included a prohibition of federal meddling with their existing state “establishments of religion.”

Still other states required those seeking elected office to be Christians.

The Continental Congress routinely designated days of “fasting and prayer” and other religious observances, appointed government-funded chaplains, and appropriated money to pay for Christian missionaries to convert the Indians.
In other words, the original American government under the Constitution would have driven the American Civil Liberties Union stark, raving mad.

Don’t be lazy…stop letting others invent /twist history….read / think for yourself …there are other sources besides MTV, CNN, and NPR. Just look at our basic criminal code — funny how so much lines up with the bible.

If you are opposed to reading…at least pray for God’s enlightenment. Some of you seem pretty angry — why? Remember He loves you … you may have forgotten Him but you can bet he knows you…give Him a chance to be part of your life!!!

  11. I have to admit that I’m very certain that so many that hate Christianity, Christ, faith, whatever… have not objectively analyzed the facts about what mankind is, how the earth or galaxies got here, or why they FEEL that Christianity is bunk.

Notice that most of these “christians” like Hillary Clinton, George Bush and others don’t practice the ‘faith’ of Christ. Those who are legitimate Christians run orphanages, hospitals, medical missions to 3rd world countries, and take the screwed up atheist-living kids off the street into a place where they’re loved and find that they aren’t’ monkeys, but valuable humans made in the image of God, who expresses Himself through Jesus.

Please, after you’ve done as I have and have followed the tennants and ‘facts’ of atheism, zoroastrianism, secularism, Islam and other realms of thought; THEN feel like you’ve got some credibility to make hateful statements. Most people hate Christianity because they want an excuse for their immorality. Is this you??? Hmmh. Think about that.

So, you’ve REALLY investigated the facts about what the mind is; if life has any purpose; or if there is such a thing as right or wrong..? Have you?? If not, then you at least must realize that you belive that there is right and wrong, and that morality is a real thing we must come to terms with. Notice:: You are making plenty of moral judgements on J.McC., other Christians and various people or actions.

The only difference between my faith and yours (and you DO have faith- you just don’t use that term for it) is that mine believes that something other than me determines what truth and reality are. You decide that YOU are god and get to decide for yourself. That doesn’t so much work very well. Seriously- play out your morality on the rest of the world and see if civilizations would be built and prosper or whether they would crumble under hypocracy, contradictions and might makes right mentality.

You all can have that. I was there too and I understand why you feel as you do. I did too until I honestly and humbly looked past my own little realm of superimposed, relative reality and realized that I don’t define it all.

But, no matter how sincere you are, you might be stunned to stand before a holy God on Judgment day and realize that your conscience for right and wrong came from somewhere other than social engineering.

I do hope that you humble yourself before the facts of reality and shed pretense about the feelings of your personal faith in nothing, yourself, or whatever you happen to define yourself as.

Seriously, I understand you. My question is: Are you man or woman enough to have the integrity to search out truth. It will determine your reward or judgment for eternity.

    All the best…

  12. In response to ZE, Yes Christ loves His sheep, but you must understand we are set apart in this corrupt world that satan is currently ruling. To be optimistic about this world is crazy. If you read Revelation and seek the Lord on this you will know what is coming. This country was not founded on Christ. If you read anything with politics and even our money it says God, well whos God? The pyramid and the all seeing eye are satanic and most of the other symbols our country uses. Do the research.
Oh, and you Obama supporters out there, know he was sworn in on the Quran and I think plans to be if he becomes president as well, not the Bible. I believe it will be McCain though.

Jehovah is coming soon, repent and live for Him.
