Goddamnit, Fox.
by Arlen Parsa
Okay, so remember how Fox censored Sally Field’s Emmy award acceptance speech in which she said “If mothers ruled the world, there would be no god-damned wars in the first place”?
At the time, Fox said they had to censor it because she was swearing (smart people pointed out that they censored about half of her sentence, which included a remark about the war, rather than just the word “goddamn). It turns out, the FCC doesn’t have a problem with people saying “goddamn on the air, and Fox itself has broadcast the word numerous times in the past without any repercussions. Check out this “goddamn” mashup from Brave New Films:
So, is there any question that Fox’s censorship of Field was politically-motivated?
The Daily Background

Red Eye airs on basic cable at 2 in the morning.
Oh, and every week FX airs Rescue Me, The Shield, and other shows that use “goddamn” and worse. I’m waiting to see how that fits into the conspiracy theory.
There’s no doubt it was politically motivated. But, unfortunately, Jim Treacher is right about cable v. broadcast being apples and oranges.
Sally Field is also right. The war has felt an even greater tragedy to me since I had a baby last year. No sane mother would put children, even other people’s children, through such trauma. Not for all the oil in the world.
