Man. It’s been quite a day. Tony Snow announces his resignation (effective September 14th), the White House gets used to life without Karl Rove, John Warner announces his retirement, and on Saturday, Larry Craig will announce his resignation (effective September 30th). Any other prominent Republicans want to announce they’re resigning or retiring?

Here’s the latest from Idaho:
Idaho Sen. Larry Craig will announce his plans Saturday morning after widespread calls from fellow Republicans to resign over a men’s room sex sting, his spokesman said today.
“We haven’t quite scheduled anything, but we’re looking at doing something tomorrow,” said Craig’s spokesman Sid Smith. “We haven’t set a time or place […]

Friday afternoon… You know what that means.
Amid intense pressure from his colleagues and the national Republican Party, Sen. Larry E. Craig planned to make a Friday afternoon announcement about his political future, an Idaho Republican familiar with behind-the-scenes negotiations said.
C.L. “Butch†Otter, the state’s Republican governor, was expected to make a separate announcement, the source […]

John Warner (R-VA) just announce he’ll be retiring at the end of his present term. Score another likely Senate pickup for Democrats in 2008 then.
Update: Chris Cillizza calls Warner’s retirement “a golden opportunity for Democrats.”

Today’s quote of the day goes to Tony Snow, who said, addressing his resignation effective September 14th:
“If I had the dough I’d stay ’til the bitter end.”

Wow. Apparently the GOP was more worried than anybody knew about this Larry Craig scandal. The RNC almost called for him to step down (that’s pretty much unheard of), but he assuaged them by promising to step down real soon anyways:
Top Republican Party leaders have received indications that Sen. Larry Craig, R-Idaho, is preparing […]

Another day, another leapfrog in the primary process:
Michigan leaped to the head of the presidential primary lineup Thursday, setting a Jan. 15 election that could become the biggest primary in state history and a key battleground for the Republican and Democratic nominations.
[…]
Assuming [Michigan’s Democratic Governor Jennifer] Granholm approves the measure as expected, Michigan — for […]

Dana Perino is his replacement. Will Snow go back to Fox, further blurring the lines between the Administration and its (un)official media mouthpiece?
Update: Does Larry Craig wanna resign today (it is a Friday) as well to make it a two-fer?

Senator John Ensign (R-Nevada)* just called for him to resign. I don’t think he can stay much longer.
* Ensign is, smart bloggers and blog readers will recall, the Chair of the National Republican Senatorial Committee. And when the Chair of the NRSC, who is charged with the task of reclaiming the Senate for the GOP […]

What do all of the following have in common, other than being Republicans?
Sen John McCain (R-Arizona)
Sen Norm Coleman (R-Minnesota)
Rep Pet Hoekstra (R-Michigan)
Rep Mark Souder (R-Indiana)
Rep Jeff Miller (R-Florida)
Rep Ginny Brown-Waite (R-Florida)
Rep Bobby Jindal (R-Louisiana)
Rep Ron Lewis (R-Kentucky)
Hint: It has to do with their colleague Senator Larry Craig (R-Idaho). Give up? They’re all calling for him […]

Great news from Iowa this afternoon- an anti-equality ban has been ruled unconstitutional:
A Polk County judge on Thursday struck down Iowa’s law banning gay marriage.
The ruling by Judge Robert Hanson concluded that the state’s prohibition on same-sex marriage is unconstitutional and he ordered Polk County Recorder Julie Haggerty to issue marriage licenses to several gay […]

Fox News on Katie Couric’s plans to report from Iraq for one night:
Uh…. Right, cause it’s not like there’s any single mothers serving in Iraq in much more dangerous roles. Oh wait…
When war started in Iraq, a generation of U.S. women became involved as never before - in a wider-than-ever array […]

Obviously Thursday’s big news (sorry Fred Thompson) is that the GAO (or Government Accountability Office, a non-partisan Congressional branch) was so afraid that the White House was going to politically doctor their upcoming September report that high-level officials pre-emptively leaked it to the Washington Post (this was the specific reason unnamed officials gave for handing […]

So… Hillary announced on video. Barack announced before thousands of screaming fans (which was simulcast on the internet). And Fred Thompson?
He’ll be doing it via press release. Late on a Thursday afternoon.
That’s right, Fred Thompson is set to formally announce his candidacy for president today via a sheet of white paper. How… bland. Boring. Unremarkable. […]

Heh, okay you know that Norman Hsu story? He’s that big Clinton fundraiser who, it turns out, is a fugitive from justice. Yeah well the RNC seems to think that the more important part of the story is not that he’s escaped jailtime for several years after a fraud conviction, but rather that he’s a […]
