How much cash does McCain actually have left?
by Arlen Parsa
Well, we already know that the 70 year old Arizona Senator has already given up traveling in his “Straight Talk Express” bus for flying coach on budget airlines, but how much does John McCain actually have left in terms of cash on hand for the primary?
Not much. When reports circulated last week that he was almost joke, they were, if anything, an understatement.
McCain has $3.2M had cash on hand on June 30th, his campaign reported to the FEC late yesterday. But of that 3.2 million, only $1.9 M was available for use in the primary campaign.
… And the campaign has $1.8M in debt.
Subtract the one from the other and you get only about $100,000 with which to run a campaign on, if they were to pay off their debt. Not where they want to be, by any means. The inside-the-beltway spin about McCain thriving when he’s an underdog is just that– spin. Nobody can control their image or wage an effective campaign with such an anemic level of cash support. I don’t think he has much chance of making it to the primary at this rate.
