Ron Paul compares convicted extremist right-wing tax evaders to MLK
by Arlen Parsa
Oh this is just outrageous. Ron Paul has the nerve to compare a couple of convicted right-wing conspiracy theorist militia gun nuts who are tax evaders, to Rev Dr Martin Luther King Jr? And Mahatma Gandhi?
n an interview with RogueGovernment.com, the Texas congressman compares the Browns to Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King Junior. He says the Browns are suffering like those leaders.
The Browns are holed up in their Plainfield (New Hampshire) home and have threatened violence against federal officials if marshals come to arrest them. They were convicted of an elaborate scheme to hide millions of dollars in income. Their protest has become a rallying cry for anti-tax activists and militia members.
This is just absolutely disgusting and deplorable. These people are not like MLK or Gandhi– they just don’t like paying their taxes, and they go to illegal means to avoid doing so. Comparing these greed-minded people to the greatest civil rights leader of all time, or the man who took it upon himself to free his country from the tyranny of colonialism tarnishes and diminishes these two heroes.

lol, the Browns will soon find out what happens when you don’t pay the goverment it’s “Protection” money.
Well, they’re currently passive resisters, so to that extent they’re using Gandhi’s basic technique.
They have announced that they will defend themselves from arrest, though, so if that actually ends up happening the analogy will no longer be apt. For the moment though, it is. You just don’t like their cause. Neither do I, particularly. There’s a legislative remedy available and they should work for that. But people who sacrifice themselves in resistance to what they see as unjust law shouldn’t be dismissed out of hand as greedy meanies.
V is wise!
And Fluffy, that is precisely the point of so-called “progressives” - people who think we ought to be self sufficient are greedy meanies who refuse to support the State’s overarching goals of making war on anyone and anything, everywhere, all the time.
END WAR - Ron Paul in 08.
I just spent the last 2 hours listing to that interview described here. I thought it was a GREAT interview! Dr Paul sat down and really discussed some great topics and what he said I agree 100%. I would like to see the other presidential canidates sit down and discuss topics in the same manor! Way to go Ron Paul!
HE HAD NEVER HEARD OF THEM BEFORE he was asked about them. He was NOT talking about them but of civil disobedience in general. He has never talked about them afterward either — hence you cannot claim he is using it as a political football. HE DOESN”T GIVE A DAMNED about the BROWNS and probably doesn’t even remember their names.
The AP and others had to retract this statement and so should you.
If this is not retracted this blogger could be sued…
Just some friendly advice.
You’ve got to be kidding me, right? You are either extremely reactionary, uninformed, or both. There is no law requiring Americans to pay an unapportioned tax on their labor. PERIOD. The 16th Amendment was never ratified in accordance with the writ of law. And, like it or not, the Browns are like MLK in the sense that they are speaking truth to power. How is wanting to reap the benefits of your hard work greedy? And please tell me how that position is somehow abhorrent and disgusting when it appears that your position is that citizens should reap benefits from a system they do not contribute to. How is it not greedy to want services paid for with other people’s money, much less support a system that taxes its citizens and spends that money without representation? “The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not.” Thomas Jefferson
Where is the quote where he actually says that they are like Ghandi?
