Bush’s Surgeon General nominee wants you to think homosexuality can be lethal
by Arlen Parsa
President Bush’s homophobic Surgeon General nominee James Holsinger once wrote a medical paper suggesting that gay sex leads to death. Frank Lockwood of Bible Belt Blogger writes:
The Human Rights Campaign has released “Pathophysiology of Male Homosexuality”, an eight-page document prepared in 1991 by surgeon general nominee Dr. James Holsinger for the United Methodist Church’s Committee to Study Homosexuality. In the graphic document, Holsinger describes the dangers of what he labels “anal eroticism.”
[…]
Gay sex, he warned, can lead to “lacerations, perforations and deaths…The anatomic and physiologic facts of alimentation and reproduction simply do not change based on any cultural setting. In fact, the logical complementarity of the human sexes has been so recognized in our culture that it has entered our vocabulary in the form of naming various pipe fittings either the male fitting or the female fitting depending upon which one interlocks within the other. When the complementarity of the sexes is breached, injuries and diseases may occur as noted above.”
Holsinger, you’ll recall, is also known for founding a church whose mission is to cure gay people of the “disease” of homosexuality. Contact the Senate, and ask them to vote against Holsinger’s nomination for the chief medical officer of the United Statse as Surgeon General by emailing them at help_comments@help.senate.gov.
