Update: MoveOn has a petition asking Biden to drop out of the debate.

File this under “WTF?”

The Bush administration said Tuesday it will fight to keep meatpackers from testing all their animals for mad cow disease.

There have been three cases of mad cow disease identified in cattle in the U.S. The first, in December 2003 in Washington state, was in a cow that had been imported from Canada. […]

Fred Thompson = Yawnnnn

Obviously, Fred Thompson is having an incredible media day, and I really see no reason to add to it by writing much of anything about him. For some reason though, I have trouble taking him seriously as a candidate. He seems to me as just sort of a conservative/actor, rather than a conservative Republican politician. […]

Is Cindy gone forever? I don’t think so

As you’ve probably heard by now, Cindy Sheehan has “quit” the peace movement. Well, that’s the story that’s being circulated in the media at least.
I of course did what President Bush was afraid to do– that is, I with met Cindy in early 2006– and even then she was saying stuff about how glad […]

The Case for Withdrawal

Filed at 12:53 am, Wednesday May 30th 2007
by Arlen Parsa

When Americans turned out in unusually high numbers last November to vote in a non-presidential election, they sent an unexpectedly strong signal to those in Washington. Republicans were kicked out of control of both the House and Senate, and exit polls consistently showed that voters wanted to start withdrawing some or all troops from Iraq.

The President sent tens of thousands more troops to Iraq instead. It was the exact polar opposite of what Americans wanted, and polls now show that large majorities of the public do not expect the so-called “troop surge” to be successful in substantially decreasing the level of violence in Iraq. Meanwhile, public support of withdrawal has mounted.

New Harris poll shows Bush approval at new low

Another Bush bounce:

In an April poll, Harris found that President Bush’s popularity had sunk to the lowest level of his presidency, with 28% of U.S. adults giving his job performance positive ratings and 70% rating him negatively.
Boingggggggggggg.
Update: Whoops. I read things way too fast: the poll was released in April. In fact, I even blogged […]

Can you imagine having a former government official being executed for corruption in the US? That’s what’s going on in China:

China’s former top drug regulator was sentenced to death Tuesday for taking bribes to approve untested medicines, as the country’s main quality control agency announced its first recall system targeting unsafe food products.

Out of touch: Bush stubbornly insists public supports him

I think President Bush must simply be deluded. There’s no other way to explain this:

Confronted with strong opposition to his Iraq policies, President Bush decides to interpret public opinion his own way. Actually, he says, people agree with him.
Democrats view the November elections that gave them control of Congress as a mandate to bring U.S. […]

Who has Dick been meeting with?

Well, this doesn’t seem suspicious at all:

A lawyer for Vice President Dick Cheney told the Secret Service in September to eliminate data on who visited Cheney at his official residence, a newly disclosed letter states.
The Sept. 13, 2006, letter from Cheney’s lawyer says logs for Cheney’s residence on the grounds of the Naval Observatory are […]

Meet the man nominated by the Bush Administration to become the next head of the World Bank. He is, apparently, a fan of pandas (although it remains unclear whether pandas are a fan of him).
