Chart: How well represented are women in Congress?

How well are women represented in Congress? Not very well, it turns out. While more than half of all voting-age Americans are female, only 16.3% of Congress is made up of women. It turns out that this is even slightly behind the average parliamentarian representation of women worldwide, which is at 17%, still dismally low.
