In the past couple days, a couple of stories have come out that suggest the Bush Adminstration borrowed harsh “interrogation” methods from other places. Which leaves me with the question: did they steal torture techniques from Soviet Russia, or Nazi Germany? Or maybe both?

Back in November of 2006, Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al Maliki promised that the Iraqi military “would be able to assume security command by June 2007 — which could allow the United States to start withdrawing its troops… I cannot answer on behalf of the U.S. administration but I can tell you that from our […]

Well this is certainly sobering. Because of a dramatic increase in US casualties in Iraq, Fort Lewis in Washington is not going to hold memorial ceremonies for individual soldiers who die in combat. Here’s what they’re doing instead, to be more “efficient”:
Instead, the post will hold one ceremony for all soldiers […]

This article is a must read for anybody out there who likes Lou Dobbs or thinks that he’s a trustworthy source for news and information.
Mr. Dobbs and Ms. Romans engaged in a nearly identical [on-air] conversation a few weeks ago, when he was defending himself the night after the “60 Minutes†segment. “Suddenly, in […]

Well there’s good news from my home state of New Hampshire today. Governor Lynch (D) signed into law the civil unions bill which easily passed the legislature earlier this year. Here’s the Associated Press:
“We in New Hampshire have had a long and proud tradition taking the lead in opposing discrimination,” Lynch said. “Today that tradition […]

Errr, poor marketing choice for the Thomas & Friends Hooded Bath Towel thingy there on the right. Also, as an added bonus, the “Thomas & Friends” logo in the bottom right corner almost looks like it says “Thomas Friedman” if you read it at the right angle.
Hat tip- Wonkette.

In February, I wrote:
…arch-conservative Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia’s 45 year old daughter was arrested for DUI in a suburb outside of Chicago. Officials won’t release what her blood-alcohol-level was at the time of arrest. She’s been charged with reckless child endangerment as well, because three children were in the vehicle she was driving while […]

The Department of Justice is apparently now going through their records and investigating all the hirings and firings decisions made by former DoJ-White House liaison Monica Goodling (pictured right), who recently testified before Congress that she “crossed the line” by considering political affiliation when hiring DoJ employees.
Specifically, Goodling essentially admitted to asking potential job applicants […]

File this under the Unreasonable Expectations category:
In the AP interview, [Clinton] defended her vote against an Iraq war funding bill, saying she believes that President Bush will begin withdrawing troops from Iraq soon and she doesn’t want to back his strategy any longer.
Is that honestly what Clinton believes? Is she really naiive enough to think […]

Ugh, this is awful. The White House today said that they want US troops to stay in Iraq for fifty years or more. The Associated Press reports:
President Bush envisions a long-term U.S. troop presence in Iraq similar to the one in South Korea where American forces have helped keep an uneasy peace for more than […]

Karl Rove’s crony Tim Griffin (who everyone thinks Rove got appointed as US Attorney in Little Rock Arkansas) is finally resigning from his job, effective June 1st. The Department of Justice had originally planned to sneak-appoint Griffin, but the Senate noticed and obviously, it didn’t go over well.
Interesting side note, Griffin just happens to also […]

Obama’s campaign is criticizing McCain for missing five weeks of Senate votes. Here’s part of a letter McCain sent out to his supporters today:
“…. even though I have been campaigning all over the country, I am mindful of my duties and responsibilities as a United States Senator. Just last week, I voted to continue the […]
