[Updated] Democrats raised 9 dollars every second of the 1stQ
by Arlen Parsa
Political Insider says that the Hotline (the subscription only version) has calculated that: “Assuming the Dem WH field pulled in $70M over the past Q, that means they collectively raised cash at a rate of about $778K/day, $32K/hour, or $9/second.” That’s assuming Obama’s numbers are around 20M, I believe (although they have yet to officially say).
Here’s my question: how do Republicans’ numbers stack up? Less? I think so, due in large part to McCain bringing in like half of what Hillary raised.
Update: Okay, I just did the math.
Clinton + Edwards + Richardson + Dodd + Biden= $51M
Romney + Giuliani + McCain + Brownback + Huckabee= $49.3M
So basically, even without Obama’s $20M+ Democrats are still ahead of Republicans for the quarter overall. Remarkable. And it’s got to be due to the sheer volume of contributers on the Democratic side, while those that have been donating to the GOPers have been mostly large-dollar donors at face-to-face events.
