Bush’s approval sees incredible nosedive in traditionally conservative state

A new poll from my home state (New Hampshire) shows that President Bush has an approval rating far below the national average (somewhere in the 30s) of only 17% (among registered voters).

Note that the reason this is so low despite having a disapproval level that is average nationwide (62%) is because of a remarkably high 20% unsure. I’m fairly confident that the reason for that is a lot of Republicans in the state are seriously having second thoughts about him. In December of last year (when I assume majority of Republicans approved of the President), Bush’s approval level in the state was 36%.

This dramatic nosedive is pretty incredible if you think about it, because NH has been considered reliably Republican until fairly recently. In the 2006 midterm elections, both of NH’s Congressional seats went blue, including NH-01 which was perhaps one of the biggest surprises (nationwide) in the night. If I were John Sununu, NH’s one-term Senator who is up for re-election in 2008, I’d be awfully nervous right about now.
