Will pro-war Republicans criticize McCain for saying US lives “wasted” in Iraq?

You may remember that Senator Obama was attacked relentlessly by conservatives for saying the following at a speech in Iowa last month:

“We ended up launching a war that should have never been authorized, and should never been waged, and on which we have now spent $400 billion, and have seen over 3,000 lives of the bravest young Americans wasted.”

He apologized shortly afterwards (not once but twice), but it didn’t matter to those eager to criticize him. Here’s what ultra-conservative pro-war blogger Michelle Malkin had to say about the Senator’s remarks:

“…it would be a waste of breath trying to get Sen. Obama to acknowledge the existence of countless soldiers and their families who reject his patronizing, infantilizing, and insulting view of all American troops as dupes/victims who have squandered their lives.”

Here’s another well-known conservative blogger, going blue in the face attacking Obama:

Of course he thinks their lives were wasted. Everyone on the anti-war side does; that’s one of the reasons they want to end the war. But they can’t say that because it dishonors the dead…

Here is a sampling of some rabidly angry conservatives (who are often racist, ill-informed bad spellers as well), commenting on the video of Obama’s remarks on YouTube:

Wasted? Don’t waste your vote on this fool.

Wasted? He’s disgusting.

This is gonna bite that fuckwad straight on the ass come election time.

no one will elect this nigger or the dyke trying to beat him.

“Obama-nation”–This guy is the Anti-Christ!!

wasted???? Well, there’s another candidate that won’t make it to the whitehouse, and definitely doesnt’ deserve it.

this guy is a piece of filth. the lowest form of political opportunist. no doubt, as a cog in the il political machine the guy is crooked as a dog’s hind leg.

wasted? Hmmm.. maybe osama was WASTED on cocaine when he said that? Our troops are winning the war against the muslims and wasnt this clown at a madrass years ago? Conicidence? NOT!

Got that? Now here are the exact words of what Senator McCain said last night on Letterman:

“Americans are very frustrated, and they have every right to be. We’ve wasted a lot of our most precious treasure, which is American lives, over there.”

Here’s the video of McCain saying it on YouTube.

Will pro-war candidate John McCain be ceaselessly criticized by his fellow pro-war Republicans for saying that American lives have been “wasted” in Iraq?
