Obama’s announcement liveblogging
by Arlen Parsa
You can watch Barack Obama’s announcement as it happens here. It started a few minutes ago, but I think the video will start at the beginning for you even if you start watching late so it’s not truly live per-say.
And I’m pretty sure that even if you click this link 6 hours later there will still be some way to watch it on his website.
Update: The introduction song was “City Of Blinding Lights” by U2.
Update: The political laundry list mentioned so far in Obama’s speech: gay people, immigrants, hoaxes, lobbyists, Katrina, Iraq, the ‘digital age,’ teachers, affordable college, poverty, child care, (universal) health care, ethanol greenhouse gasses and the ‘crisis of global warming’ 9/11.
Update: He’s so audacious: “I recognize there is a certain presumptuousness, a certain audacity to this announcement.” I’m sure he’ll use the word hope as well. Hahaha…
Update: “And let’s lay down broadband lines all across rural America!” Not quite rural electrification but it still got a big cheer. Sign of the times I guess….
Update: “Let’s be the generation that finally frees America from the tyranny of war”
Update: Closing music: “Shout” by The Isley Brothers.
Update: Obama’s family was rumored to be very concerned about his safety as a black man running for President before he made the step to run. As he greets people in the crowd right now, there are a leigon of stocky men in black overcoats all around him…
Update: After a carefully coordinated meeting-his-kids on the old IL state legislature steps and then meeting his wife at the top a few moments later, it’s over.
The Daily Background

[…] Seems like Lynn is buying the NYT’s reporting that Obama will announce his VP one morning this week. Or, alternatively, he could announce his VP in Springfield on Saturday afternoon/night when they’re reserving the place where Obama kicked off his campaign, but a Saturday evening seem like awfully odd timing. Of course, Obama officially kicked off his presidential bid in Springfield on a Saturday too… […]
