Bob Schieffer offered his frank thoughts on the Iraq debate in the Senate which Republicans have been trying to prevent. Partial transcript below.
SCHIEFFER: What’s really going on, you’ve got three groups up on Capitol Hill, the Senate, right now. Republicans who don’t have to run for re-election [in 2008], Republicans who do have to run for re-election- and the Democrats.
Now, the Republicans that have to run for re-election want to get on the record, seperating themselves from the President’s war policy, but so far the Republicans who don’t [have to] run have managed to tie this up because they don’t want to embarass the President- that’s what’s going on here.
