Meanwhile, back in Iraq…
by Arlen Parsa
Just as tens of thousands of Americans are protesting against the President’s escalation plan on the National Mall in Washington DC today, 7 more American soldiers have died Iraq. Almost 3,080 Americans have died in Iraq according to the Associated Press tally.
This, on the heels of revelations earlier this week that the US military lied about the circumstances in which four soldiers died in recent days, claiming they had died repelling an attack, whereas in reality they had been abducted, robbed, and murdered, more than 20 miles away from where the supposed attack was claimed to have taken place.
This is of course far from the first time that Pentagon officials have concocted stories about what really happened in Iraq- there are plenty of examples of hoaxes ranging the ultimately-proven false reporting about Private Jessica Lynch in 2003, to the fake story given by the military to the family of Pat Tillman in 2004, to the official premise surrounding the death of specialist Alyssa Peterson, whose story you can see below in a short 1 minute and 30 second PSA I made a while back for a human rights class.
