Memo to everyone ever- Al Gore is not “up for two Oscars”
by Arlen Parsa
Dear everyone ever, Al Gore is not up for an Oscar. He is not up for two Oscars. The man is not up for any Academy Awards at all.
The documentary film made about him was just nominated for two Oscars (Best Feature Documentary and Best Original Song), but that is not the same thing at all. Gore does not stand to personally gain anything (material at least) from the film’s win or loss however. The film was not his idea, he did not have anything to do with the actual making of the film, the editing of the film, or anything else (and her certainly did not sing “I Need To Wake Up,” the song from the film written by Melissa Etheridge).
The film was directed by a fellow named David Guggenheim, whose idea it was to make a film about Gore giving his slideshow presentation. All Gore did was perform it in front of cameras and allow himself to be interviewed and followed around by a camera– and all of a sudden people are acting like he’s about to win an Oscar.
This is not the same thing as Best Actor, people. Repeat after me: the subjects of documentaries made about them are not, in fact, eligible for awards.
