No link yet, but NBC News is reporting that Saddam Hussein will be dead within 48 hours and will likely hang on Saturday… stay tuned and update this page for more. AFP also reported today that:

The White House expects ousted Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein to be executed perhaps as early as Saturday, a senior official said on condition of anonymity.

The official cited information from US authorities in Baghdad that “it’s not going to be tonight our time, or tomorrow their time, it’s going to be maybe another day.”

I had heard earlier that Iraqi officials wanted the whole affair done by New Years and the accomanying religious celebrations, and Monday is the first day of January.

Update: NBC has a brief story out now that will be updated. They say:

Former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein, sentenced to death for his role in 148 killings in 1982, will have his sentence carried out by Sunday, NBC News reported Thursday. According to a U.S. military officer who spoke on condition of anonymity, Saddam will be hanged before the start of the Eid religious holiday, which begins that Sunday.
