Ciro wins TX-23
by Arlen Parsa
Congratulations to Representative-elect Ciro Rodriguez, who won his run-off tonight over Republican incumbent Henry Bonilla. The margin was something like 55-45 (final results not in yet), which is a significant difference from the original pre-runoff results of less than 50% each. Ciro, a former House Rep, had tried to run in several districts in southern Texas, and he was a pretty good Democratic candidate but kept getting beaten. I’d heard it said that if Ciro lost this one, he wouldn’t try again, or wouldn’t be seriously considered again as a nominee by Dems. Well, he did it.
Update: Bonilla conceeds.
Update: By the way, this means that Dems gained 30 House seats this year. Which, if you’ll remember was pretty damn close to the last estimation I gave right before the midterm election (I said very low thirties).
